Why do I automatically log out?
Ooo, I´m frustrated. I just spent over 40 minutes putting something on the Forum, but it signed me out automatically, then when I got back to my posting screen, the subject was gone! That drives me up a wall. What gives, I say, what gives?

Lately it's been happening to me, as in the past few days. It won't let me stay logged in, but it used to. Are there any settings we need to change mods?

You click on the "automatically log me in" box at the bottom of the login screen and it will automatically log you in everytime you access the site. At the start, I lost a few pieces of work because it had taken over thirty minutes to compose them, and the site had logged me out. By clicking that box, that will keep you logged in until you log out yourself.

Why log out in the first place? When I've had enough of WF and want to do something else (is there anything else?) I merely hit the red and white cross in the top right corner of my monitor. Next time I want to visit this site, I simply click on my shortcut and bingo! In other words, for the computer-illiterates, I'm logged in all the time. It never goes off. What a lot of shagging about the rest of you do. Just making life difficult for yourselves.
(Do you know how to create a shortcut? Sheesh. Just click anywhere on the WF home page. Scroll down the menu. Click on 'create shortcut'. Answer 'yes' to the question.)

At the top right, type in your user name and then password, as usual. Now here's the important part. BEFORE you hit "log in," click the little white box under the log in button that says "Remember Me." That will keep you logged in until you log off.

If you continue to be logged out after using the remember me feature then I'm afraid the problem is at your end. Try clearing the cache, changing browser or fiddling with your privacy settings.

If you take too long to type a post, you will be logged out automatically.
If you have a long post, either type it beforehand in a Word Doc and copy/paste it OR type it in the Quick Reply box, then copy it. If you're logged out (which has happened to me if I'm called away from my computer and some time goes by) you can log back in and paste it for posting.

Not if you select the box below the log in boxes that says "remember me". This will keep you logged in indefinitely (i.e. until you either log out or close down whatever internet browser you are using.)
Sam.

Yes, but not everyone can do that. At work there are others who have access to this computer, so I don't use that box.
I'm sure there are others who use public systems, at work or school who don't use that option either.

Good point. I found my wee brother on my laptop when I came home from work one evening, and discovered that he was checking my private messages and posts because I had clicked the "remember me" button. I rectified that by password-protecting my account and restricting his permissions on his.
