They don't quote specifics. They ban the person and let them back whenever they feel like it. Or so I've heard. TT was once temporarily banned for about two and a half weeks.

They do. They also have a tendency to say 'Good I' mate' from time to time.

Three possible explanations for that spring to mind almost at once.

1. They're not online.
2. They're online, but you can't see them.
3. They have two accounts--poster and moderator. If they spot someone doing something naughty, they can say, "This looks like a job for moderator-man!" and then disappear off into the cyber-equivalent of a telephone booth, there to transform into their secret mod identity.

I'm not going to enlighten you on which of those are true or false, because a completely pointless sense of mystery and paranoia will enhance your browsing experience. And when I say "Your browsing experience", I mean mine.

There is a specified amount of time. It seems like there isn't because moderation policy isn't a public discussion.

It is the administrators who decide when someone is banned. And they usually let them back whenever they feel like it.
It's the entire staff that decides.

I mean no offense, Sam, but I would suggest that anyone reading this thread take their information about the staff from staff only. There's been disruptions of moderation because of misunderstandings between staff and members. This was by and large caused by single members fabricating PMs and such.

So, really, take your information only from people that know for sure what they're talking about.

That's not quite correct. It's 'mite'.

Hi.

Temporary bans are as you would expect given to individuals who persistently disregard the site rules or, more often than not, basic courtesy. Their duration is determined when the ban is placed and varies by the severity of the offenses. They range roughly between a couple of days and a year or more. Second bans will last longer, in some cases being indefinite.

There is some basis to the notion that we might not quote specifics when banning, in as much as it is likely to be the culmination of months or years of irritating conduct.

As has been said, bans are rare and never delivered without fair warning. It is known that we do not generally discuss moderation in public, but if you have a specific query about the duration of a specific ban you can try PMing me.

Not at all, Shawn. You were bang on, especially when it comes to getting ones info only from the horses mouth.
