Couple of things don't seem to be working any more
First, I used to get notice via email when someone sent me a pm here. I thought that was very convenient. I no longer get this notice.
Second, I can't up load any of my swamp critter pics into my avatar. I always get a failure message.
Will anyone tell me in small, simple words what I'm doing wrong in each instance?
Thanks,
ST

I believe you can select your email options somewhere in your profile preferences.
Are your critter image files too large?

before the crash, avatars of roughly 100 x 100 were accepted. Now it's only 80 by 80. I had to downsize my av to be able to use it.

You may have to reset some things. The email notification setting is in your User CP.
I had the same avatar problem and had to make my pic smaller which annoys me no end.

Thanks, all.
how does one make their pics smaller? (modern pc English certainly does lead to singular/plural problems)

Crop your pictures, ST. Use Microsoft Picture Viewer or Paint, as Foxee suggested. There'll be an option in the Edit section called "Crop". Use it. Be wary, though. By cropping down to 80 x 80 you are essentially removing most of the picture. It's going to have to be a small picture to begin with, otherwise you'll end up removing half of the damned thing, and it will look like f**k all squared. Pardon my French.
Sam.

I wouldn't crop unless there is a lot of extra stuff on the pic that you're willing to lose. Scale instead and you won't lose anything.

cropping and resizing pictures is almost automatic with my iMac. a single button does it all. however, nobody here can see the results because I cnnot upload any pictues to this site.
thats my luck.

Yes, you can. You just would not work through the problem. Humor me and follow these steps.
1. Copy this link exactly.
http://i159.photobucket.com/albums/t...ndowDarkSM.jpg
Note that it is a full address. Addresses that work generally start with http://
2. Open a reply box.
3 hit the damn little button with the mountain on it.
4. paste link
5 hit ok
6. post result
You certainly can do this. It's a matter of learning.

I think it was 80x80 before the crash, Alan. I had trouble getting an avatar to fit. But it could also only be 19.5K. That's the message I saw anyway.
The avatar I have now used to be slightly larger; it looked like it had white dashes all around the outside. I used Photoshop to crop it, and then saved, and somehow it ended up larger. Go figure.
I just can't seem to reduce the size or quality on anything enough for it to fit on the site.
Oh yeah, there used to be an unlimited inbox amount for PM's, now there's a limit of 500 (not that I'm using that all up or anything)

There was always a limit of 500 in the PM box, Joi. Mine's almost full now, so I'll probably have to delete them all. Oh well.
Sam.
