Not number one any more?
I don't have a computer at the moment so I work from other people's typing in "writingforums" and then googling and clicking on the top one which is always us. Only this morning it wasn't, it was writing forums .org and I had to write us into the address bar to find us because we were not even on the first page! Are we not popular any more? Is this how a star feels when they suddenly flop?

I just tried it and lo! You were right. So I retyped and added .com and there we were back to #1 again. Easy-peasy.
With any luck this post'll beat Sam to the draw.

Well obviously when you added .com, Ox, this site would come back number one. There is only one writingforums.com. There can't be any others with the same name. The rest are all writingforums.org or writersforum.com or other.
Sam.

If you want this site to become popular, then it really needs to get back on the first page.
If people are looking for writing forums then in google they'll type "writing forums".
And yet this site is nowhere to be found in the results.

Here’s my two-step cure.- The owner of this site sells out to a sexy female.
- Said female cozies up to Mr Google.
That should do it. It works for Hollywood actresses.

I tried it too. I'm shocked.
It has to be a mistake or a google glitch or something.

The admin needs to resubmit the site to Google. The headers look good, so it should get back onto the first page.

Well, it's still on p1 for me, though .org is above it.

Hmm, I looked at this and it's not a matter of popullarity. For "writing forums" entry to return a whole page without this site on it means the site has been blocked or depreciated by google for some reason.
This can happen for many reasons. One is if there are any links that have misleading anchors or keywords hidden in the background... stuff presents misleading info to users or search engine bots.

So I wrote in Writing forums.com and put a space between writing and forums on automatic (as you do) and we are not even on the first page for that.
Slowly we shall be isolated from the rest of the world, until finally we shall be completely alone, a small group of people talking only to each other, totally isolat... Sorry, thought I was in short stories for a second or two there.

It showed up on the first page when I found this place a few weeks ago... I typed in "writing forums" too. How curious.

Random dips can occur in Google quite often.
Possible reason for this could include the slow forum loading making it impossible for the search engine bots to browse and index all the pages, making the site seem smaller than it actually is to the search engine, and ranking it lower for specific terms as a result.
Solution? Use a more reliable server / host.
Or it could just be a random occurrence (I've had this happen on my own site once or twice), in which case it will fix itself when Google decides it wants to.

This has stimulated some discussion staff side as well, it seems Google have altered their criteria lately, the general opinion is that it will fix itself given a little time, we will keep an eye on things and take steps if we continue this way.
