Is this happening to anyone else...?
It seems that I can't click on any link on the site without first removing the "www." part from the web address. So, for example the link <http://writingforums.com/> works for me but <http://www.writingforums.com/> does not and instead shows a "server not found" message.
It's not my computer, if it is then its something I know nothing about because I've checked the connection (works for every other website), firewall settings and even if I had a virus.
Is this happening to anyone else or am i just the only one with bad luck?
EDIT: Okay nevermind. Right after I clicked "Post Thread" the problem fixed itself. I'm more confused than ever, though. Maybe its a bug in some of the coding? Or maybe the phrase, "ask and you shall receive" has more truth to it than I thought...

After using command prompt to ping "www.writingforums.com" and "writingforums.com," I've discovered that they are both coming back with the same IP address. So I can't understand why you can't access links on the site without removing the www. The only thing I can think of is that your DNS Cache (Domain Name System) is out of date.
Do this for me: go into command prompt (click on "run" and type in "cmd") and type this in: ping www.writingforums.com and see what IP address comes back. Then ping writingforums.com and see if it's the same IP address. If not, there's a problem on your system.
Sam.

Err...there's a "Run" in an internet browser? I used the run for the system and typed in cmd and put in the urls but all I got was a message that the system doesn't recognize an internal/external <insert word here> "www.writingforums.com" is.

There's a "run" on your Start menu. When you type "cmd" into it, it will load up command prompt. You then type "ping www.writingforums.com" and "ping writingforums.com". If they don't come back with the same IP address (it should be something like 216.180.231.72; if those numbers don't come back the same on both pings, there's a problem with your system).
If you're using Vista, type "cmd" into the searcher on the bottom of the start menu, and click enter.

I think it's safe to say that I am officially on RH's radar.
So, Katastrof, any joy?

Well I tried, Sam and I got the IP adress for www.writingforums.com but the system couldn't identify one for writingfourms.com. But it's all working again so I guess there's nothing to complain about?
Thanks for the help Techno Savy Sam.

Well, that tells me there's a problem with your system. But if it's working properly now, I don't think there's anything to worry about. If it starts playing up again, though...
Sometimes computers can magically fix themselves. You'd be surprised how many people don't believe that turning off and on the computer solves half of the problems. If you ring an IT maintenance guy with a problem, the first thing he'll ask you is: 'did you try turning it off and on again?'
Sam.

Hmm, interesting. Never happened to me for this site, but on some other sites it has happened. Maybe it could be a firewall issue?
