Site slowness?
I just started visiting here recently and am finding the site very slow. I'm wondering if it's just me, or if I've just happened across this place at a bad time or something. It's certainly not unusable, but it's slow enough in loading/posting/etc that it's a bit of a distraction.
Thanks, great site aside from this little nitpick.

Other sites are even worse-it takes me ten minutes to get through the front door at WritersBeat. I'd complain but that takes twenty minutes.

I have that problem, but it depends on my internet connection. If I'm connected to my home wireless network, the site doesn't load at all. But when I'm connected to the university network here at school, I don't have any problems.
What browser you use seems to matter too. Firefox is most consistent for me, but there are times at home when I can only get the site to load using internet explorer, and only after I remove the 'www.' from each url.
I have no idea how to fix it, but you're definitely not alone.

I don't find it all that much distracting. Leaving a post sometimes takes upwards of about ten seconds, but other pages seem to load pretty quickly.

pages won't load
This site does seem slower than most message boards I have been on but the really irritating thing is when the pages don't load at all. It doesn't happen that much but often enough. Sometimes it will take two to three tries before I can get a page to load. Most of the time though it's just slow. I remember someones signature saying that this site is run on a commodore Amiga 128 in someones basement which I found hilarious. I wonder how far from the truth that is... hmmmm.

Yes, it is slow.
I have that same problem, it doesn't keep me from enjoying the site.

When many users are viewing one Web site at the same time, or when the database server on the back-end has too many tasks running on it, slowness results. This would be like everyone in a house trying to take a shower at the same time.
I don't know if this forum application is designed to accommodate 2-300 people at once; it was at 240 when I posted this. I'm wondering if all the stored data, posts from 3-4 years ago are bogging this down.
A technical forum I belong to that uses this application has 20-30 users at a given time.

I can stand waiting a minute or so for things to load, but I just waited 7 minutes and nothing happened. So I refreshed and then nothing happened, and then I closed my browser and tried to come back, and nothing happened.
That makes me sad.

If you'd like the site to run faster, why not do as AdrianHayter has done and donate some money? The bandwidth isn't free and the server does sometimes groan under the strain of everyone posting.
