OK, I'll bite! Do your best.
Good to have you back-what organ did they remove this time? The spleen or the prostate? Or is that too personal?

Another thing you can do to help speed the site up is avoid the "search" function. It uses quite a lot of server resources.
If you need to search the site, see if you can do it using google's servers instead (they don't mind). In google's searchbox, type "site:writingforums.com" followed by your search terms.

I have a Internet Explorer comp and a Firefox comp, and the Firefox works way way better, but it's still rather slow.
I love this place though. Totally worth it.

Why is everyone in such a hurry, airmail letters used to take two weeks each way. I click on 'your posts', go and put the kettle on, come back, check if anything new has happened, click on new posts, go and make the tea, come back, answer a couple, click on unanswered posts, make a sandwich, come back...

Yes, it's the slowest site I visit.
And just because "it was much slower back in the day" doesn't make it perfectly ok for it to be slow.

Anyone ever think it's got something to do with your internet options and connections, along with, oh I don't know, maybe the line speed your Internet Service Provider (ISP) gives you? I can access different parts of this site in seconds, and my line speed is 4 (max is eight) so you've got to allow for things like that. Also, when the site's more busy, it will take longer it will (obviously) to access things.
Sam.

For me, this site is only slow when I have certain other sites open. When I close those other sites, this goes back to being one of the quicker message boards I've been on. I say that as someone with dial-up.

I love this place...even when it's slow around here...I have learned when to expect it.
I know, if I am going to be on during peak times, posting is going to be a pain. So I just sit back, put on some music, and expect to be here awhile. I enjoy this writing forum, so it's worth it to me.

and I thought it was just me. With all the internet sites I visit, this one is by far (15-30 seconds on average- sounds fast but count it out....e..t..e..r..n..i..t..y..) slower at loading and switching pages, slower yet with posting. I have to agree with Olly Buckle...time for me to chill in this 90 mph speed race called life and go with the flow. Although the button below - 'Post Quick Reply" merely taunts me.

More people equals more demand on the server which equals site slowness.
Sam.

Took me 2 minutes from click to get to this thread.
This isn't exactly a very busy forum, and yet it's still the most consistently slow site I've visited, by quite a margin.
