Warning – WF may have viruses, and you’re having intercourse with her.
I’m serious for once.
There is evidence this site is infected with viruses. Viruses are easily transmittable to anyone who logs on. If your pc starts misbehaving, you’ll know why.
And if you see evidence of strange goings-on here at WF, complain to a mod or Admin. I’ve just tried posting to Writer’s Workshop, in “The Return” thread, and the whole thing is all over the place like a mad woman’s knitting.

As long as I keep my firewall running smoothly, I don't think I'll have anything to worry about.

Yeah, my PC's got a firewall too, so I think I'll be safe.

I've not personally noticed anuthing amiss, but this is as good a time as any to remind patrons that you should always have your firewall switched on (both on your PC and your router, if you use one) and have good, up to date antivirus software. If you can't afford it, go to AVG and download their free stuff. It's as good as Norton and doesn't cost.

... and Avast offer an alternative free virus checker that's helpful if, like me, you find AVG Free eats too many system resources.
For further security you may wish to consider running an alternative browser rather than Internet Exploder--Firefox is very popular, as is Opera.

God, I just started using Opera. (Explorer is a total, complete, irredeemable piece of shit and Firefox forces too many unwanted upgrades on you...might as well be microsoft) And it is the coolest, most thoughtfully designed browser I've ever seen.
Downside, you run into sites where it doesn't work all that well. One or two percent, I'd say.

Most of those Firefox upgrades are for security and performance issues. You aren't forced to use Firefox 2 or 3 over the original.

Opera is by far the most advanced browser. It's not without its faults, though.
To fix most of the compatibility issues with websites that aren't working well with Opera, go to Tools > Quick Preferences > Edit site preferences > Network > Browser identification > Identify as Internet Explorer. That works on a per site basis, there's another way to do it universally, but I always forget how.

Yeah, as a matter of fact you are or I wouldn't complain. Duh.
Firefox just downloads when it feels like it. Trouble is, many of those downloads mess things up, especially since Windows doesn't exactly make non-MS programs welcome.
The last one was such a fuckup I just ditched it and discovered Opera. Incredible Browser.

No you're not... Firefox 2 and 3 are completely different applications. I still use the original version at work, but I use Firefox 2 at home.
Although you may be right about the security updates messing things up for Windows users. I've never experienced it at work, but PC's aren't as forgiving as Macs about downloads.

From memory, it was on the occasion of the first of the two recent failures, and it was, I think, Selorian who said as much in a post on Writing Discussions: Forums for Writers - Index
But I could be wrong. I often am.

I have no problems with Firefox, nor do I have any problems with my computer running non-Microsoft software. It's probably either your fault that things don't work, or the fault of whoever made the software that you're trying to use. I have personally never heard anyone complaining that their software doesn't work on a windows unless they did something wrong or were trying to install some cheap, crummy software.

I recommend getting Firefox, then getting the Adblock Plus, Adblock Plus Element Hider, and NoScript add-ons. Works great. Really though no security measure is fool-proof. If you're a fool, nothing will protect your computer well enough except turning it off and leaving it that way. That's assuming that you don't tend to drop things and/or liquids on it.
