Editing in Office Word '03
Does anyone know how to configure Office Word to an edit mode? I've seen editors use this software in such a fashion that all corrections are in red and the original remains unchanged. I try making corrections for critiques in red and I have to continuously go up and change the color of type. It reverts back to black each time. Then, when I cut and paste the document into these little windows, the red font disappears all together. It takes forever to do a finished critique. What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
Adrian

These might help:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/305216

No guarantees that they’re what you want. I’d downloaded them ages ago, haven’t got around to studying up on them.
Cheers

Edit: You might also have a look at this: http://www.writingforums.com/writers...pyediting.html particularly Posts #2 and #4 then pm Vitalis and ask her for advice.

Thanks Ox. I followed the instructions and it's really amazing. All the comments and deletions are set in boxes to the right side of the page. I experimented on a young victim's piece here at the forum. Unfortunately, the resulting word document will not transpose to the thread as formated. Or at least, the way I was trying.
Thanks for the info-you're better than Encarta.

I'd probably make a better detective than writer.
I don't know if this will mean anything to you. Edit - I mean, I hope I've expressed myself clearly.
Occasionally I've posted a crit using three colours.
I do all the work in Word (by copy/pasting the OP into a new document, which I then use red and blue to alter, changing the original word or phrase to red, followed by my inserted suggestion in blue), then set the font and size, before copy/pasting back to this window, to Verdana 10, which comes out at this end as Verdana 2. The colours stay as originally typed. I do a preview, and if anything's gone wrong, I just delete the lot and paste it again.

That's right, Adrian -
a lot of Word formatting does not transfer into forum formatting ...
the track changes comments become footnotes, which is why it's
better to paste your work into the reply box in small sections -
that keeps the footnotes close to the original work ...
another thing you'll need to watch is line returns -
for some reason, extra line returns turn up in the post ...
font changes can also go a bit screwy, so again,
you might have to do some last minute editing of your post ...
the best advice? - preview your post ... twice is better ...
