Youch - problems with the site. Is it just me?

Ok, so obviously I can get here. But not without effort. Every time I click on a link it automatically adds in a 'www.' and won't display. I have to manually remove the 'www.' just to see a page. Logging in was a nightmare.

When I made it here, the pages are screwed. All graphics gone, the format's rooted. Nasty stuff. Is it just me? And if so, what can I do?

I checked it on my husband's computer and the same thing happened, and it's only happening at this site. The only place I want to go to right now too. Grr.

Thankees

I get problems too, when I look at my post the screen says that there are 3 replies yet shows only one and so on.

I would have replied sooner ... but the page wouldn't load -
happens to me more on this forum than any other I frequent ...

Sometimes, new replies seem to get missed in the rush ...
they are on the thread, but not updated on the "watch list" ...
or confirmed as posted replies (hence the occasional
double-post, one immediately after the other) ...

it's as though, in the busiest times and in the quietest times,
the server folds arms and says "screw you - I'm on my break" ...

More detail on this problem:

By no graphics I mean that half the board's format has gone.

All smilies, icons and buttons (such as reply, post new thread etc) are gone - all replaced with little red x's. All the colours are missing from the page - (except oddly when I make a post) - it's just white page with the links to the threads in blue.

It's horrible. And I still have to wipe out 'www' just to load a page.

Help? Anyone?

x's? It almost sounds like your computer is blocking overtime "for your own safety." Mine does the same to me too, but mostly with email. How to fix it though? I'll leave that to those who know more about computers than I do... which is pretty much everyone.

Unless I'm wrong. Which I likely am.

EDIT: (Just thought I'd pass along this suggestion from someone who knows computers better than I do.) Check your firewall setting. It could be set too high. A good old-fashioned cleanup of files and cookies along with a timely reboot never hurt nothing either.

Hope that helps.

I'm not much on computer stuff either, but some possible avenues to check ...

1. your web browser doesn't like this site very much;
I don't know if you use IE, Netscape, Firefox, or some other program?

2. your ISP doesn't like this site very much;
it may be that some of the data signals passing through your internet service provider are being filtered out as "spam" or potential virus carriers -
you can contact your ISP and ask them to check if that's happening,
and if necessary, ask them to "whitelist" the site ...

3. your firewall, or your anti-virus protection, doesn't like this site very much - you should check to see that this is an approved site ...

4. if your connection is dial-up, or if you live in a region with less than optimum service, it may simply be struggling to cope with the data stream (though if this is the only site that is causing you problems, then this is less likely to be the cause) ...

5. this site doesn't like your ISP, or your IP, very much ... and your data requests are being shunted further back in the queue ...

Thank you, you two...oddly enough I have a new computer (as in, it's one day old) but since it was happening on my hubby's putey we didn't consider firewalls.

I have broadband, and the site was working just fine until I got the new one, so hopefully it'll be something to do with that.

Hawke - could the fact that our computers are networked be affecting his ability to access the site as well as mine, do you think?

I've had trouble getting the forums to load and sending replies/pms. Is it a vbulletin problem?

My husband played around with firewalls - still no joy, except that the little red x's are gone.

Still no avatars, format, buttons, colours etc.

Still having to remove from 'www' from the link of every page.

Can only log in from reply screens - when I get here every forum is locked for replying, so it's also not 'remembering' me like it should, despite ticking the 'remember me' box.

Bah. I love this site, and have only just found it. Right now, it's a literal headache (gives me sore eyes) the way it is.

Next stop, isp.
