I think I might hate being a professional editor.
You know, and I know, that the singular is “gladiolus” and that the plural is “gladioli.” But I also know that many peeps use the plural for the singular, and so, considering that my words here might just reach a wider audience, decided to go with the more plebeian approach. My problem was then compounded by writing “gladiolis” – that didn’t look right.
Final solution – for which I have been picked up previously – apostrophise the damn thing and hope for the best.

Or just use the proper word and hope for the best.
I didn't know it was gladioli until just now but I'd sure rather that you use that if you know it rather than write it improperly and hope for the best.

Alan, I would love to see you in one of those big 'ol wigs, but you have to still wear your cowboy outfit. Your avatar is of course you isn't it? I see you as the rebel lawyer cowboy.

Point taken. You're correct.

No, she's just out for a walk with her boyfriend and pet slave I think. I'm pretty sure all people destined for the guillotine were brought there in some kind of wagon.

I'm not a cowboy, but I do live in cattle country.
Although I have branded cattle, cut off their parts, driven them from pasture to pasture on horseback, and had a pet cow once, and then ate her after she was butchered. I have cowboy boots and western gear, including a wide leather belt with my name on it and a huge silver buckle, but mainly wear them on occasion to the gay bar, not the rodeo. I have irrigated, fenced, and shot coyotes. I use the word "howdy" a lot. I entered my chickens in the state fair as exhibits as a kid.
Is that close enough, joanna?

I'm new here so I probably shouldn't butt in, but was "voodoo" the kid from Nashville?

What a shame. There's a general tendency to put down young writers as naive. I hear it all the time - 'how can you write anything substantial, you've never even lived.' That boy impressed me. I was hoping to learn something from him.
