Dress up for Halloween (again)!

To borrow the ultra fabulous post made by Dark Aevin last year…

Yes, it's that time of year again. Halloween's just around the corner, so why not dress up early for the occasion? Show your spirit with Halloween avatars! Alter your own in paint or another program, or find something completely new. Let's turn this forum into a party filled with ghoulies and ... um ... ghosties, spiders, snakes and demons!

MWAHAHAHA!!!

If nothing else, I'll turn all of you into unwilling vampires. So you might as well join the party on your own!

I think all that Halloween stuff is silly nonsense. But don't forget us south of the border types, either.

It's only muertas in Ciudad Juarez, where they only kill women.

I think the contrast between Halloween and Dia de los muertos is culturally interesting. Many Americans see DdelM as being a Mexican equivalent to Halloween, which it decidedly is not.

The muertos represented by the little skulls and coffins and candles are family members. Who return on that day to eat with their living descendents and relatives. It's a long tough trip from the netherworld, but they do it because family is family and a Mexican family is most powerfully expressed when it's sitting around a table eating.

In other words, the Dead are invited into the home and accepted. There are little altars to them in the entryways of homes and businesses.

As opposed to be something to be afraid of.
