Where's the chocolate?

I can't find Reese's cups in Oz.

So what's the first best day of the year?

As for me. I love any holiday that involves chocolate!

What are TimTams or Violet Crumbles?

I'll trade for dark chocolate--preferably w/coconut--no nuts though. You can have all my milk chocolate.

Violet crumbles are the coolest, most exotic candy bar in the world. A melt in your mouth seafoam inside, dipped in dark chocolate and taste like violet. That's right...violet, it turns out, has a TASTE.

And you can't get them just anywhere, which makes them all the more exotic.

People don't give them to trick or treaters...you have to break in and steal them yourself.

lin got it right for Violet Crumbles - the seafoam is honeycomb ...

Your basic TimTams are chocolate creams,
sandwiched between two chocolate biscuits,
and the whole thing wrapped in ...

chocolate! ...

Marketing being what it is, they now have Dark TimTams ...
Hazelnut TimTams ...
and my personal favourite -

Double-Dipped Chocolate TimTams ...

Exactly, lin! Silverwriter sent me some from down under. They're wicked good. In Canada you can get a candy bar called Crunchie that's close to the same thing but is much sweeter and heavier than Violet Crumbles, and so not nearly as good.

Mmmmmm... Crumbles.

Smilinghelps: Deal! *grin*

Cran: Double-Dipped Chocolate TimTams. Wicked, wicked good. Ever do the TimTam slam? Mmmmm.

Okay, you people are killing me here. lol

We have Crunchies DownUnder too ...
the recipe changed over the years -
the honeycomb used to be more aerated,
but then they tried to mimic Violet Crumbles ...
and lost the plot ...

if that's anything like using the TimTam as a straw
(bite off diagonally opposed corners)
for your favourite liqueur ...
(the bisquits fill with liquid -
turning the TimTam into a giant liqueur chocolate!)
and then popping the entire TimTam into the mouth ...

then yes! ...

I've only tried that with coffee. Excellent, though.

*I'm jealous*

I just might be willing to send another installment of TimTams...

I've also discovered Smarties in Oz (and Europe) are different to State's Smarties. I'd be willing to trade for some of them so my husband will stop looking at me like I'm a nutter when I say Smarties have nothing to do with chocolate in the State's version.

Silverwriter, if you live in Melbourne you CAN get Reese's cups (I personally can't stand them, but I know where to get them). If you go to Melbourne Central, there is a lolly shop called The Original Lolly Store (it's right near Dusk and Max Brennan, in that little strip). This shop has lollies and chocolate from the US and the UK - yay for their supply of Junior Mints!

But yeah, give them a go. If you're not in Melbourne I can send some to you if you'd like.

And yes, thank Gods for TimTams... I've had four today, only dark chocolate ones though. Loved the strawberry ones when they had them last year.

They have junior mints, too? Oh, yum.

Thanks for the offer to send some, but we're not too long a drive from the city. Thanks for letting me know about it!

For those stuck States-side, if you happen to have a Cost Plus World Market nearby, I've noticed most of those usually stock Violet Crumbles in their candy aisle, though they charge extortion-grade prices for them. Bounty bars, too, which are another easy to find in civilised (read: Commonwealth) countries, but not in the US for some reason Sometimes they even have Jaffas. I think Hershies must have some kind of protection racket going. Am I the only one who thinks Hershies chocolate is nasty compared to Cadbury's?

Haven't found anywhere to get Strawberries & Cream, Fruit Tingles, or Kool-Fruits, yet, though....
