Don't Duplicate Threads - Ask Staff to Move Them

Please be aware that there is a rule against double posting and carefully choose the best forum to post your work.

If you do need a thread moved, please PM a staff member so that we can move it rather than re-posting in another forum.

Thanks!

~Foxee

I agree with you on this Foxee. Hopefully when people read that rule, it will stop them from double-posting on here.

And where is this list of staff? I have no idea who they are.

Hey, NaCl, if you go to the main page that shows all of the forums and scroll down there are two links knocked out in white on a green bar right above where it shows who's online. One is a member list the other is a list of forum leaders. That would be staff.

(Shoot! Now they know where to find me...*hides*)

I just found the complete list of "staff" under the "Groups" button on the menu bar at the top of the page. I would suggest that you folks change that title from "Groups" to "Site Management", "Staff" or some similar word that provides a better indication of the content.

.....NaCl

ps I thought "Groups" must be some kind of writer groups...it's misleading.

Yeah... it is a bit confusing. On most of my other forums, there "The Team" or something along those lines that makes it more clear just what exactly that section is about.

does the rule apply to entries in challenges, which are later reposted for general critique?

(please don't read anything more into that - it's a straightforward question)

Quote from poetry challenge guide:-

Reviews/critiques on poems by members and participants of the challenge are not allowed in the challenge theme threads. Poems may be posted in the Poetry forum after the challenge is finished for general review/critique.

To me this reads that you can do the posting yourself and not have to ask a staff member to do it for you, it makes sense to keep the challenge theme complete rather than moving the post and in the case of a legitamised duplication why not do it yourself. Caveat:- I am the most junior member of staff and could be over ruled, in which case say "Sorry, Olly thought..." not "But Olly said..."

understood, Olly ... hence the question to clarify that ...

ie, should the rule be amended to acknowledge the exemption for challenge entries?

should re-posting of challenge entries for general feedback be conducted via a moderator?

or, is the provision in the challenge guide a violation of the rule?

EDIT: or, should the distinction be made between posts and threads?
Noting that the rule appears to be to prevent duplicate threads ...
though cross-posting is mentioned ...

No, putting your challenge entry out for critique after the challenge is over does not transgress the rule. Why?
1. Because each post location has an entirely separate purpose.
2. You are not posting in both threads at the same time. (they are not active at the same time)

This thread is about posting your story in 'Fiction' and in 'Writer's Workshop' at the same time. This bumps your story twice simultaneously with two separate conversations. It gives you two active threads on an identical version of the same piece of work.

It takes up more room on the 'new posts' search and is confusing.

Please understand that someone can post their story for critique, get feedback, and re-post it either in that thread or make a new one and move the conversation on. I've had members contact me to lock the old thread so that people don't keep posting on the old version of the story. This is perfectly acceptable (and, I'd say, best way to do it).
