Sean, what you don't seem to understand, nor, quite frankly, would I expect you to, is that your hate-on for Selorian regarding Voodoo is misplaced. You appear to think he makes random decisions about things, willy-nilly, just because he can. Let me set you straight on this: While he's usually the guy who has to carry out moderation, he's not the one who solely decides WHAT that moderation is. It's a group decision by the staff. Imagine that, eh? That's the part you aren't seeing. You're blaming one person for a group decision. Doesn't that seem a little silly?

Let me also point out that there has been no censorship of the word voodoo. Baron's poem is a testament to that.

As for Selorian's diplomacy, or lack thereof, consider how much shit, griping, backhanded, snipey, juvenile comments and posts he's had to tolerate over the past two months (because of your perception of the decision making process), and mostly from your little group, vs how many posts he made in response.

Get over this Attitude of Entitlement. You haven't earned it yet.

AS TO THE CURRENT TROUBLES:
We, as a group, all of the staff available, mentors, mods, and admin...TOGETHER...are working on finding the best solution for the current problems on the boards--just in case it hasn't been clearly stated. It would be really helpful if everyone could just be patient and not make any more of these posts.

Sorry, Bob. I had to say something.

I'm going to leave it alone.

You really got me there Valeca.

By the way read the public apology I made to the staff and to Selorian before jumping on my case anymore. It's best to know what is going on before you continue to stir the poo.

As for Attitude Entitlement you have a bad case of that yourself. Why do you think what you had to say made a differance in anyway?

Sean, I've seen your other post, and I thank you for it. I'm big enough to apologize when I've done wrong. I'm sorry.

I'm glad you've reconsidered your stance. While you may not agree with every decision made, remember, we can't please all of the people all of the time. We make the best decisions we can, and always with the interest of WF in mind. More often than not, we get it right. But we're human. Usually, though, the decisions are good, even if you (generic you) don't see it.

By the way, I have no power. I'm a lowly mentor, and as such, I have no muscles to flex. I do tend to get a little...what's the word, bitchy, when the staff, most of whom have put years into WF, are constantly criticized because someone doesn't agree with a decision made. That, however, shouldn't mean I go off on someone. Again, I'm human, and I apologize.

(oh, and Hodge, my last post was just for you, baby. Call it an Afternoon Delight.)

It made the 30 seconds it took me to read it actually feel like 30 seconds! Nothing beats real time in the office.

Then why was my signature edited for having GV's name and the date he will be returning to the forum in it? It was edited without even informing me, so I thought there was something wrong with the website, and got in trouble for continuing to try to fix it. How is that good modding? I'm not trying to be rude, I'm just confused.

If I remember correctly, there WAS something in Site Announcements to the effect that that person was not to be discussed in any way by any member, with a promise of a three-day ban for transgressors. I believe three got caught, although I personally was only aware of one of them. So you were perhaps lucky to get off so lightly.

Moderation details are moderator business, not public record. I think we all have to remember that this is an internet forum, not Prime Minister's Questions.

Well said, Shawn. This villagers' torchlight parade is unseemly.

For another perspective...I've been posting her for about 4 months. I only know of one person who's been banned. On may forums I post on there are at least 10 people here who would have been kicked off most forums by now. I mean, other than myself. These people go to lengths not to do that.

I was curious about what happened to Voodoo Chile myself. He was abrasive, but had a weird uniqueness about him. I assume if got the boot, he went out for it. And that he is continuing to interact with the site and therefore causing more attention to his issue.

But... I DON'T CARE!!!! This isn't the Prague ghetto or Uganda or Bosnia...it's a freaking dilletante internet forum. How much do we really give a shit. As opposed to living out lives?

Fwiw, and for those who haven’t noticed, I'd like to share with you a personal experience, plus my way of handling it, which saves having a thread locked or someone warned/banned.

There’s a certain forum member who, almost from the time of my joining, has rubbed me up the wrong way. It all started with my genuine enquiry about the way in which temperament characteristics in a writer might influence writing. I was howled down by this person about my theorising.

Over time I have speculated that there will never be any common ground between us.

Ok, every once in a while I might make an original post about something that gets up that member’s nose. I don’t refer to the member by name but even so the message gets through. And in return I receive ignorant remarks, vitriol, abuse, the venting of spleen, and of late even my partner has been dragged in and vilified in the foulest terms.

I could respond in kind. But what’s the point? So I either use logic to refute the hysteria or just ignore it, and everything quietens down again.

Until the next time.

What fun.
