An HTML form text input, i.e. the box that you paste your stuff into before posting, just isn't as sophisticated as real word processing applications. It's clever enough to apply most kinds of formatting, providing you do it within the box, but it won't preserve whatever formatting you had natively.

a way round it i've found it to put two spaces between your paragraphs. it only seems to remove one.
