I find it stange, if not hurtful, to see that people view other's (my) work, but they dont leave a post. I think that even if they dont like it, they should say something. If i read something an i like it, im gonna say so, if i think it needs work, ill offer advice and ideas, if it sucks, im gonna just say it....but since im barely online, i dont have time to read at length.

Anyone feel the same way?

I just took a look at your other posts, and eight of them were you posting up your own work. The other two were this thread, and your introduction. Try critiquing people's work, and you should get some back.

People not commenting on your work means nothing. Or rather it does mean something, but that something is difficult to discern due to the many factors that could result in no one commenting on your work.

Here are possible some possible factors:

1. You are new to this site.
2. You have not commented on anyone else's writing.
3. The poetry forum gets flooded with poems, so it is easy for your poem to drop to the second page which all but eliminates your chances of getting comments.
4. The lyrics forum is not very active.
5. Amount of views does not translate to the amount of people that actually read the whole thing.
6. Your writing is so terrible that no one can read through it to comment.
7. Your writing is so good that no one feels qualified to comment on it.

Although not a foolproof solution to your problem, the best way to get comments is to comment on other people's writing and build some rapport. Your not being online much, is a minor predicament. Since you write poetry and lyrics, it should not be too hard to comment on one or two poems every few days. At most, if you were giving a comprehensive critique, it would take maybe half an hour to comment on one poem.

You can't expect others to take their time to critique your work if you're not going to be bothered to critique theirs.

Bingo. What makes you think that most of us aren't in the same boat? Not only do I not have time right now but when I DO read and critique I read the piece at least twice before I crit it. Once through to simply get the whole effect, the second time for critting.

Because of this lack of time I may read part of a story and simply get interrupted or if there is something about the writing that simply makes me impatient I'll quit and do something else. This is valid, too. Much of writing is being able to cut through the 'noise' that people live in and grab their attention. If you aren't getting responses after you've done some critiquing this may be the problem.

Welcome to Life in The Big Cyber City. Most people don't comment, and this won't change. The same hold true for the guy or girl on all the Best Seller Lists -- only a small percentage of readers take the time to comment.

Also, there are a lot of thin-skinned writers, and it's better to assume that to be the case until you know the writer better. Sometimes the most mild of criticism is treated like an attack. If I was really open to any and all comments, I would make sure to say that in the post.

And sometimes people are really just indifferent to your story.

Workshopping means posting your work and getting feedback from complete strangers. Some comments may be positive, and some - probably - may not. You have to get used to the idea that people are going to say things about your work that can seem hurtful. You need to develop the 'thick skin' that people talk about, and not let negative comments hurt you.

If you find a lack of comments hurtful, you're probably going to find negative comments very hurtful indeed. Please consider this, before you get your first comments. People will be honest, and honesty can sometimes seem hurtful, even though it's not intended to be.

Also, don't forget that WF is readable by non-members, too, at least most of the site is, so some of the people reading may not even be registered and can't post comments.

Lastly, if you look at other posts, you'll find that the number of reads is typically much greater than the number of replies, so it's quite normal (not just here but in other similar forums).

Good luck with your writing, and please - recognise that you need to develop a writer's 'thick skin'.

I got no problm with ngative feedback, been hearing it all my life. Id rather hear something bad than nothing at all, no such thing as bad publicity
