Anyone from New York City?

I need help if you know New York City. In the book Iam writing, I need a shady part of New York City, like Harlem, I'm not sure. A part of town that is not to safe. Also I need a place that a murder could take place and the victim was left in a river or some type of water. Any help would be greatly appeciated. Thanks Terri

Google Earth could be useful for what you want.

Harlem's gone through a lot of renovation and is not the Harlem that most people picture. It's really gotten stereotyped. There's crime in most parts of every big city.

Checking out forums about New York could be really helpful. When I wanted to learn more about specific parts of Dublin I'd visited, I went on some Dublin forums and there were lots of helpful threads and members there.

Harlem isn't as shifty as reputation makes it seem. However, I would say that the back alleys of Chinatown (especially the strip between the touristy part and Little Italy) are very shady. It is the only place in the city I have ever felt totally unsafe. There's also Hell's Kitchen...I've never been there, but there's a reason why. However, I'm not a resident, just a frequent visitor.

A murder can happen in any part of town, really. At night, Central Park is a pretty unsafe place (lots of murders/rapes happen there).

The Hudson River goes right along side a few of the burrows of NYC, so that's where a body would get dumped, if it did. There are also a lot of broken down and rotting piers on it, too.
