Protocol for posting large stories
If we have a short story that is still quite large (8000+ words), where/how should we post it? I'm worried that directly posting a large story into a single post might surpass the database storage limit and truncate the writing. Should I extend it over multiple posts within one thread or create many threads, one for each chapter? What protocol do people here usually follow and prefer?

There's a limit of like 20,000 characters or something. It might fit. I don't know. However, I can tell you that no one will read it if it's that long. Reading off a computer screen sucks, and 8,000 words is a lot.

Then it is settled: All readers will have to print off my long stories on their own printers (I will not reimburse paper and ink costs). Actually, I'll just post the smaller stuff. Thanks for the answer.

You can also break it up into smaller pieces. A lot of posters here do that, and it works. You could split it up into 4 smaller chunks and you'd probably get a fair amount of critiques.

Don't speak for everyone, please.
If it's fantasy, I'll read it, provided that it's actually spellchecked and edited and all of that technical jazz.
