WF awards
Just had an idea... why not have a WF annual awards ceremony?
We could have the mentors or regular commenters in specific forums nominate their favourite submissions... shortlist a few and have all the WF members vote for the winner of each category? Or we could make a nomination panel for nominating the 'best' of each category.
We could have - best poetry, best fictional short, best factual short, or even best wordgame, or stuff like that.. i dunno...
Well of course there isn't such a thing as the 'best' poem of them all, but a little fun and recognition from members would be nice. I'm sure we all have our favourites.
anyways.. just a random thought.. let me know what you guys think

This has been brought up before. You can look at it here.

all i see there is a raft of silly replies, so i can assume the idea wasn't taken seriously...
imo, if implemented, it would cause more dissent than harmony... and would introduce elitism into what has so far been a wonderfully free-from-that place, where no one is judged 'better' than another...
i'd vote against it, were we to have a voice in the decision...
hugs, maia

But it could be done to pieces of writing, instead of people. Say people could submit people's work they really enjoyed, and people vote for it, and the works go to a new section called Hall of Fame or something. Just an idea, lol.

No matter how it's done, it'd likely turn into a popularity contest. The easiest way to keep it from happening--don't do it.

I agree we writers are a sensitive lot, and this is not a competitive writing forum, except where so stated. I think that awards can be good in some circles, but in this one it's not the best way of recognition. I think that getting reviewed by peers is very complementary whether they love it, give some ideas to change it, or flat out say they don't like it. That way it is individual taste and not a group judgement.

AH! Such conciet Ms.V! I am totally disgusted!!
Anyway, I was just thinking of it as a random award given out to people just for the heck of it, not for competition sake... but I see your point selorian and maia. Oh well... you gotta expect a random suggestion every now and then
