remove public access to WF entirely.
Due to my rather unique name, and my paranoia of being googled, I find myself censoring some of the things I'd like to say/post for fear of having someone find it at some point in the future.
Forcing people to be registered to WF in order to view it would curb this fear.
Doing so would also cut down on spyders and bots and such.
And, possibly best/worst of all, doing so would attract a different crowd of members; in the past I've only joined such forums if I've been really interested in whatever they focused on.
Something to consider?

Or you could just not put your real name as your username. I might have to start stalking you to drive that point home.

I run a writers' workshopping forum that operates behind closed doors. It avoids a number of problems, including the one you mention. But the two are quite different beasts. Both are fine in their own way, of course. But WF wouldn't be WF if it was to pull the curtains across so that no-one could see inside without registering. Also, mine doesn't carry advertising so the relatively low number of members and page hits compared to WF isn't a problem.
Making the Writers' Workshop here visible only to registered members was a good move.
Cheers,
Omni

I don't think I would have joined if I hadn't been able to see what kinds of things this place could help me with. I didn't even realize the writer's workshop existed until after I joined and it was a blessing. So I think that if we hid the rest of the forums it wouldn't attract people like me who really do want help with their writing but don't want to join something that's so hidden it seems shady.

The amount of information on Internet is expanding at a rate more logarythmic than the rate at which you express yourself. This phenomenon defeats any purposeful stalking of your person or creativity. Time is money.

That's a sure way to kill any forum that relies on public passersby.

Thanks, Ilan.
Although since the operation I prefer to be addressed as Pawnette.

I don't think that suggestions really suits this forum. If you've got privacy concerns, then changing your username is a better option. You should PM Spudley or Nae to see if that can be done.

As everybody seems to conveniently ignore me, I'll rephrase:
If you have posted as much as Ilan, you're absolutely bound to have your names stuck in a few archives of Google (not re-newing), which'll lead to WF
