selorian72, you made some very valid points in regards to my post. I see where the issues can arise from all of them.
In regards to Oasis' comment about your story going off the first page in a short time is valid also. I've posted something, come back in the evening, and it's not even on the first page anymore.
The thing I foresee is when the forums gain more members, as it does everyday, it also is going to need to expand to meet the needs of its members.

I have to say I think it's an excellent idea. I'm not into sci-fi and fantasty, I just sort of grew out of enjoying them, that is not to say they are childish genres. But since I don't read them I don't know enough to critique them, but when I look in the fiction section and it's swamped with stories I know i'm not interested in, I don't see the others that I could help or enjoy or both.
So I think it would be very useful to have a fantasy/sci-fi forum and an everything else one, I think it would mean more and better critiques for everyone really.
just my 2 cents.

As a brand new 'newbie', I am sure I posted in the wrong place. I'm still not sure whether to reply or start a new thread in a couple of the areas.
What would be nice is 2 things: a link to a "Welcome, Rules and Help" page that is obvious; and a site map.
For example, what are the suggested ways to post a 10 page story for review? The FAQ search is nice, but a mapped series of "how to.." pages would be better (IMHO).
But I think that Fiction may need to be broken down in genres as the forum grows.

Thank you all for agreeing, or commenting to think about it and so on. And Russel, the Rules and Help is in the FAQ's, and Rules.

I love the idea. I totally agree. Even though I'm new at this.

Rules and Help
Sorry - I mustn't have made the point clear enough. I am suggesting a page that says "Here's some of the navigation tricks" and "If you want to post anything longer than 1000 words we wuggest you do it this way".
I haven't seen anything in the Rules or the FAQ about these or other similar "newbie" topics.
NOTE: I'm not complaining, just trying to offer an improvement suggestion.

Ummm I was responding to a comment about my previous post that I am sure was on topic.
Anyway - apologies if I got off topic. I didn;t mean to upset anyone.

It's okay, not a prob, as Dephere said, ask me or someone and we'll help out. So, what's everyone else think of this suggestion, and thanks Terra, glad you liked it.

(Just to add my own two cents...)
I think it's a fine idea, Oasis, and one that should definitely be considered.
(As for posting on the wrong forum, etc. Aside from those who may not check or ask, definitions for each section should solve the majority of the problem...one would hope.)

Considering the idea's had about as good a reception as any suggestion can expect to have, and stood up to at least some of Cliff's constructive criticism, I'm going to refer the thread to the admin. WF categorises work by format, not genre, yet I can see no serious disadvantages, besides establishing a slightly dubious precedant, to erring from that guideline. Assuming Peter is amenable to the concept, I am hopeful that the change will be forthcoming. That is, Fiction will become 'Speculative Fiction' and 'Fiction'.
Personally, I feel we have far too many forums here at WF.com. There are six or so forums which attract a staggeringly tiny percentage of the total forum posts per day. In contrast, I consider that forums like Fiction do stand to be segmented. Sadly I can't think of a way we might do the same to Poetry, and not for lack of trying...
