A little humor...

Maybe a section dedicated to humorous works regardless of genre would be cool. Writers could focus on helping each other increase the funniness quotient of work. The gerneally plea to critiques woud be "how can I make this funnier?" rather than "How can I write this better?" Plus it would be fun for everyone to have a place to go when you're feeling down and need a laugh without have to dig through the more depressing pieces.

I don't know, just a thought I had.

I like this idea. Humour's tough to write and to have a specific place to go and get advice would be helpful.

Ilan Bouchard is an unknown quantity at this point
Variations on this suggestion have been made time and again.

The problem is that "humor/humour" is not large enough a subject to warrant having its own forum. It's not general, such as "poetry," so it would not have enough posts to warrant its existence.

However, since people seem to have a sense of humor/humour around here, you can post your column or story or poem in its appropriate place and mention that you're looking for how to improve the humor as well as the writing.

Humor is actually a much broader category than Poetry, since humor can include poetry, fiction, non-fiction, lyrics... anything at all. The sheer size and range of the subject could create a problem, since it is extremely general, so I can understand the obstacles involved. It can be a bit uncomfortable to post a piece of humor writing in among serious material, though. Humor's not, typically, given the same weight and respect as other forms of writing.

But then again, I like it here, so I'm happy with WF either way.

Of course!

...it's Humor!!

You know, when you get caught up trying to go in a certain direction with a subject, it's easy to find yourself stuck in a "mental wedge" from which you can't seem to break free.

In those moments, I think it's important to walk away, if only briefly, to give your mind some breathing room where your thoughts are no longer consuming and exhausting all of your intellectual oxygen on one particular exercise.

Humor can be one of many mental tools you could use as a psychological pry bar to that mental wedge, and free you up from an otherwise unproductive mindset.

...and if that don't work then go try a couple of stiff drinks, or some ice cold beer.

since no rule in the 'fiction' or 'non-fiction' or 'poetry' sections' guidelines that says all material posted there has to be 'serious,' i don't see why a separate section for all types of 'funny' work is needed...

lots of humorous poetry is posted among the more serious stuff, all the time... and anyone is free to submit humorous stories, essays, or whatever, in the relevant 'form' sections, which they now do...

so, i don't see that it would be of any benefit to start separating posted material by its intent, rather than its form...

you can always add '[humor]' to the subject head, if you want to make sure all who're looking for such stuff will know it's there...
