I know some people have a problem with fanfic 'cause they think it can be smutty. Well, yes it can but it's so much fun!

Feel free to start the thread yourself. As long as you don't break any rules, you're fine.

Like Ilan said, start the thread yourself if you want. I don't think it'll become a big section like Short Story or Poetry or something, but as long as you don't break rules, go for it. Those who don't want to see it can stay away from that thread.

Sounds fair enough.
Although I think fan fiction is the lowest possible form of writing that doesn't help improving your skills.

Every time you write, no matter the subject, no matter the form, no matter the language, you improve your skills. Maybe slowly and unconciously, but you most certainly do.

Fan fic is a form of writing, and this is writingforums.com, so i mean, it should be OK. I'm not a big fanfic fanatic (hah, i rhymed, or something alliteration, whatever) but it can't hurt. It's not like it's gonna clog the place and destroy it.

Fanfic has got such a bad reputation but I think it's fun. I think it's hard too because a good piece of fanfic is only good if you know your characters well enough not to make them detached or childish. In order to do this, you need to have immersed yourself in them and the situations behind their being. Its not an easy thing to do.
Bottom line, if you don't know your characters and environment, the chances are the fanfic will flop.

Really? There's no evidence it won't destroy this site.
I still say no. There are other places for that, specifically for that.
I agree with Blade. Fan fiction is the lowest form of the art, and it does not improve your skills in any way. Rather it perpetuates and indoctrinates bad habits.

how can one thread destroy the site?
I'll admit, it is a low form of writing, but it is still writing, and anything you writem whether it's a scribble or the next great novel, it improves your skills,

As I've said, I don't believe that is the case with fan fiction. I believe fan fiction perpetuates the continuation of poor writing habits.
And I believe an endorsement of fan fiction writing by WF would be detrimental to the reputation of this site. That may be a strong positon to take, but I will make that stand nonetheless.
