I am so sorry that you had a bad time at first, Rkay. As for not welcoming you, I apologize for that. I try to welcome as many new members as I can but unfortunately, it is not possible to welcome them all. So, welcome to the forums. Now if I may I would like to address a few comments you made in your post.

All moderation is done in private. It is between the staff and the "offender." I do not see that changing anytime soon.

No, it is not foolproof and I thank you for recognizing that. As things progress I am sure that some changes will be made. For now, though, it seems like things are working out fairly well considering that we are the first Mentors on WF.

Usually, since there are nine Mentors, five moderators, one administrator, and a whole bunch of active, helpful members, one of us will catch the things that the others miss. In my experience, most issues do not go unnoticed for long with all of the people that are watching. I am glad that some "non-mentors" were able to help you when the rest of us did not notice what had happened right away.

In addition, as it has been noted, some of us have our preferences and I personally hardly ever read anything in the Poetry section unless it is by someone that I know (like Penelope or Pawn). Hopefully sometime in the future, it will be made clear for the new members what sections each of us haunt. For now, they should be able to get a general idea by looking through our posts. Members can PM any one of us about a problem or question and can rest assured that it will be passed on to the appropriate person.

In case you did not know, we do not have any moderator powers. When we have proven ourselves, some of us may be given the ability to move posts but that is it. Think of us as members in good standing who have been given a title so we are recognizable to new members who need help. That is a bit of an oversimplification (we do a few other things as I explained in an earlier post) but we were chosen because of the way we acted on the forums before the Mentor program started and the main thing we were asked to do was continue that behavior.

Thank you for taking the time to be critical of what we are doing. All of the Mentors take their responsibilities seriously and I find it very helpful to have members like you and Ilan pointing out where you think we are going wrong. I happen to think we are doing a pretty good job so far, as we were before the creation of the Mentor Program (otherwise Chris would not have made us Mentors), but of course you are entitled to your opinion. Please do not hesitate to be critical in the future if you see the need. Even if it is not commented on right away as it was in this case you are being listened to.

Now that I have bored you to tears with my rambling post I really must get back to the bit that I was working on for the WF Bible. I too am happy that you stayed, by the way. If you had not, then poor Ilan would have to keep us on our toes all by himself.

Thanks heaps Daniela.....

It's funny, but I never even complained to anyone about the incident. It's good to know that there are watchful eyes that take care of things. Makes one feel safer and even more responsible with their behaviour online. Ehich I find a good thing.

And yeah, I wouldn't go so far to say that I thought something was wrong with the mentoring program. It was more on the clarificatory side as I do want this Forum to work for both me and everyone else that visits and participates regularly.

I firmly believe with our exchange here (Ilan, Penelope, yourself, and all concerned) that there is a bright future ahead for WF. It shows that we care enough to work things out.

My thanks to one and all. My only hope is that I didn't come across as negatively critical.

See you around....

Rkay

Other members have PM'd me asking me to review their writing and I'm happy to oblige. I did that prior to being a mentor as well.

What keeps the forums ticking along isn't the mentors but the active membership.

I don't know about your spot of trouble but am very happy you stayed. One bad experience can wreck the whole thing. God knows I'd have left another site long ago if I followed that agenda.

Diversity makes for an interesting site and it's because of the open atmosphere here that it's my favourite hangout.

Wow... I'm new.... I don't have a mentor...

Should I have my breakdown now, or do I need a mentor to supervise it?
