Hear hear. Lit.org has been ridiculously kind to me. They've published everything I've submitted. I was really gratified to get some feedback, as well.

Thanks Mr.Raz my good bud.
>>Chrispian,
It do look good, it do look good!
Thank you for being the guy who owns it and would have me be a part of it. Also, I appreciate the posting of the quote/signature as well. It is a shame we wait, at all, to do the thing we love. You are one of those rare people that allow me and others to have that opportunity. No small feat that!
In case they forgot to thank you...I will for us all. Thanks!

Looks like Lit is down again. See what happens Chris? You build a great site, it becomes popular, and now you're having server problems. The lesson: it just doesn't pay to be popular.
What kind of donations are you looking for? I'm a little surprised that with all the users that frequent that forum, you can't make some scratch from ad space. I'm sure users would understand if you added some ad space and pop-ups (I've got pop-up blocker anyway, so it won't bother me )
I've never used PayPal before, and frankly I'm a little distrustful of it. (Oops, Buck-a-Page will be using PayPal. Uh, nevermind.)
Seriously, can anyone convince me (and others) that PayPal is safe?

I'm not sure about pay pal, but adds would be ok. Popups might become... tiresome... but if it's necessary, then put them in by all means.

I am not sure that anyone can convince you PayPal is safe. While I personally have not had any problems, PayPal is in some legal trouble. Not too long ago I received an e-mail with this in the subject line: "Notice of Pendency of Class Action and Proposed Settlement." If anyone who has not received this e-mail would like to see a copy, PM me and we can work something out. PayPal claims that they are safe now, but that e-mail gives me serious doubts.

Actually, that e-mail is part of the reason I bring it up.

Unless PayPal starts abiding by the EFTA (and I believe they are still trying to find a loophole), I will not trust them again. The e-mail opened my eyes to many things--I never imagined that something like that could be going on.

That's a shame, because we need something like PayPal for the net.

As far as ads are concerned I will be making a little room for some ads soon. On the forums and Lit.Org. I won't be using pop-ups or getting to crazy with it and the rates will be pretty fair. We will have a limited number of about 3 different kinds of ads and they will have easy to understand monthly pricing (between $5/mo - $20/mo, depending on what and where).
I think I will look into the Amazon honor system for donations as well. We get enough donations each month to help with the hosting, but I'm still footing most of it and I don't have a problem with that. But I would like to start making enough money to do cool things for the site.
I will also be introducing something new soon for members who want to help out called "Premium Memberships". They'll be $2/mo and discounts for paying in advance. You'll get a few extras, like a bigger avatar size, special member badges/titles, usernames will appear in another color that stands out more and more PM space and possibly a few other items. Also, there will be a of "premium member" general topic (not writing forums we want all members to have access to that stuff). This hidden topic will be just a small hideaway for offtopic conversations for premium members. It's basically a recurring donation system that's really cheap, has a few perks. They'll be available for Lit.Org and WritingForums. You can either do $2/mo for 1 site or $3/mo for both. Consider this info a perk for reading this topic I'll be announcing it more officially in the next week or so.

Chris, have you ever thought of offering some WritingForums merchandiseto the members. It would possibly make a you a little money that could use for the site. I have some ideals if you would like to discuss them. I also have an ideal about a yearly anthology contest that could give the winners a copy and then offer for sale to the other members. Anyway if would be interested in discussing them then you can pm me or let me know and I will pm you the info.
Thanks for making this great site and giving us a place to express ourselves.
Cliff

I am very keen on the idea of offering merch. to members of my sites. However, with Cafepress the number of products that need to be sold to make a decent commission is high, and if I don't make my minimum commission they charge me money or I have to spend the money I made in their stores.
Also, the quality isn't bad, but I want better. I'm looking into getting a handful of designs for t-shirts and other items done up and running our own store and I thin it will do much better. I'll be putting out "feelers" for what kinds of products everyone would look soon.
