I feel this subject needs to be brought back to attention (and back on topic ).

We've had quite a few people posting their work recently with subjects that say something like "My story; Please read", or "Please critique my poem".

Folks, please don't do this. Every story and poem posted here is looking for comments - that's the whole point of posting them here.

When everyone starts asking for comments like this, it just makes the list of topics in the forum look really cluttered up, and it gets hard to tell one from another.

I know it's mostly people who are new to the site, and maybe don't know their way around. I can understand that, and do I try to point people in the right direction, but there have been so many lately that I just can't keep track, so this is a general request: please just make your subject headings the title of your work, and nothing else.

Thank you. And my apologies if I sounded like I was preaching or anything.

By the way - it is clearly stated in the forum rules, so if you do it, you're also implying that you haven't read them properly.

Isn't the subject line of this post slightly contradictory?

I think people desperate to get comments on their work should check out the "Getting Comments on Your Posts" thread in the advice forum.

Notice he commanded us not to beg in our subjects. Whereas if he had repeatedly asked saying please, the whole idea would have been lost. Handled well.

To exemplify Chrispian's point, I usually don't even bother to look at threads that have a beg in the subject line. It's a put-off for me and immediately makes the story undesirable.
Thanks Chrispian and Spudley.

How about begging when crits don't happen?
