Remove Guest Login ?
I've noticed quite a few people getting mixed up with the guest login feature, not to mention it's like sending out an invite for trolls to come along and bother us.
As a web developer I consider this my fault! It's a usability issue and I will correct it. I'm going to improve the navigation so that it's more distinct and clear as well as make the header state clearly if you are logged in or not. I'm thinking of a side bar that has your mini profile on it at all times, which may also have a list of recent topics or something like that. When you are not logged in, it will state that you are not logged in and used an "UNKNOWN" avatar so you'll notice right away.
Clearly, people may still end up having problems posting. I would rather let them post (even as guest) so they don't get frustrated and leave so that we can help them. We can deal with the trolls with bans and deleting the gargabe messages that will pop up.
So I'm thinking I make the mini profile so that you can clearly see if your logged in or not, and leave guest posting enabled.
What are your thoughts? Other suggestions?

Yes. I'd noticed that too.
I can see both sides of the argument, so I won't try to sway you one way or the other, but I one thing I will say is that whatever else you do, you definitely need to make it clearer to the user whether they're logged in or not. Right now, it simply isn't obvious.

I've made some changes now and we'll see how it goes from here. For one, I put a login box on the top of the home page (every page, in fact) that when you are not logged in there is a bold line saying that you are not. It has the login box giving you a chance to quickly login when you first arrive.
Second, I removed the quick reply box if your not logged in. This may also help.
Third, when you do log in, you'll see your avatar, if you have one, as well as a personal greeting and the quick links to search for new posts etc. On the right of that, is a search box so you can search for specific items. Hopefully, this will help make it a bit more clear.
When I get caught up a little more I'll work in a slight redesign that will put things in easier locations, remove clutter and make it very clear if your logged in or not. Hopefully this little changes will help in the mean time.

I like the changes, it now makes it very hard to not know that your signed in or not. Excellent addition.
Warm Regards,
Bob
