cuddle college

There’s a place where teddy bears go when you are at school, did you know that? It’s a rather special and secret location that only a teddy can find and it’s called Cuddle College. It’s hidden somewhere you would never guess to look, any ideas as to where yet? I’ll give you a minute to guess then you can keep on reading. If you peek at the answer it will spoil the magic and we will have to find a new place. Without that magic teddy bears feel very sad and lonely.

Cuddle College is built on the softest, fluffiest pillow of your bed. That big one you lie on and share with us. We meet each other for class, chat, have lessons and do what any normal person would. It’s all really quite simple to understand, even for a head full of stuffing.

The difference between our schools that while you learn languages and line graphs we are taught loving and listening, two very important skills to being a bear. A bear must love the owners with all there hearts and listen to their owners needs. The most gifted bears can speak as well as listen but we learn to listen first.

Some owners need a lot more love than others because the people they live with don’t understand them or they might refuse to listen. That’s why the rules of loving and listening are important. Sometimes a bear comes along who doesn’t know how so they are given special attention from there friends who all want to help.

The people who can’t listen and love are sad and lonely, some of them so depressed they go through life putting everybody else down. I feel sure you know someone just like that. It might even be your dad, although I hope it isn’t. If a bear meets one of these people they work extra hard to show them love and listening.

Cuddle College’s headteacher is Mr Grizzly. He has a PHD in Playing Hugging and Dreaming and that is the highest level of grade a bear can get so Mr B Grizzly is rather smart. He can add two plus two plus twenty five million in his head, that’s without a pocket calculator. Calculators are used in our school to measure the amount of love and caring each other needs.

Mr Grizzly’s favourite part of teaching at Cuddle College is meeting a new bear. Sometimes a bear comes to his college feeling very shy so he makes sure he finds out what they are interested in and talks to them about it. This is how he welcomes them. After chatting with Mr Grizzly they usually lose their shyness.

We start the day with story time. All classes meet together to be taught this by Mr
Grizzly. He writes a new story every day to tell the bears. Sometimes his stories make them laugh, they could also make the children want to cry or talk about how they felt. Once we were told a story that gave us a million emotions all at the same time, including butterflies in the tummy.

After story time the bears go to classes with their year teachers and special groups. The classes look at different ways to care for their owners such as sharing a story, teaching the owner how to look after themselves and talking to an owner so they feel loved (yes, a bear really can talk if you listen).

All the bears are taught through fun exercises as it’s the best way for anyone to learn. (Try telling that to your teachers but I doubt they will listen). That’s another way a bear isn’t like a human (we really truly know how to have more fun and I am quite proud of it). One of the first exercises we are taught is to chat together so we find out how to listen to each other.

After the morning classes we meet for our lunch. Some of us bring our own food and others have Chef’s delicious Blue Beary Pie. Whatever the little bears eat they tend to share food with each other. It’s encouraged so all bears can find out what they really like. Try a peanut and gummy bear sandwich; it’s a specialty in the café. You have to make it really sweet and sticky for maximum flavour.

After the lunch hour we settle down for a long nap before television time. The teachers sing a lullabye as we fall asleep. An afternoon nap is an important part of every little one’s development whether they are a bear, child or even puppy. The rest is where we learn and develop the most.

We finish the day with watching cartoons together. My favourite is Little Bear’s Diaries. We mostly watch Care Bears too (these are important if you want to learn how to be a bear). Cartoons can teach toys and children a lot about friendship and educational skills.

We are always home before our owners get in. That way, when you arrive we can ask you about what you did all day and tell you how much you were missed. Tonight when you go home how about asking what your teddy did all day? I bet they had just as much fun as you, if not more. We could tell you some brand new stories or a joke to share with your friends if you listened hard enough.

A bear will stay with you as long as they are allowed to. Sometimes fate happens and you grow up or we are lost from you but it is just a part of life. We go on to find other friends and hope you are able to do just the same.

Thank you for posting this. It gave me a nice little smile.

It's well-written, watch out for homophones, though (their/there).

I enjoyed reading this.

aww, its really cute. it is a sweet idea. I'd like to see the grammar improve. also you should maybe zoom on one particular bear's perspective throughout the whole work. are you going to make this into a longer story? Maybe show one or two little scenes of the classes they take. I think you really should keep writing on this one. it was fun to read.
why do they develop the most during sleep? i dont get that.
good luck with this. it was very cute.

This in the first paragraph - I'd have a period after look.

Comma after magic, otherwise they are Magic Teddy Bears.

Very sweet. I like that the grizzly is a cuddle bear.

This is so sweet, the tone is just right. I'm sure little kids would love this.

I can see illustrations to this, and that's always a good thing.

If I had children, I would definitely read this to them.

thank you. I do try to write for young children. Maybe I will try and make the illustrations to it.
