The star was a brilliant blue diamond set in a velvet black blanket. The blue-white light illuminated the glistening craft as it quickly approached the young star. The ship stopped a safe distance from the star and launched a small probe. As the probe neared the star a thin energy band shot out from the ship and expanded an infinite number of times enfolding the entire star in a dim light nearly impossible to see against the star.
The probe finally reached the star and a small crescent-like incision formed on the surface. Flames lashed out violently like cords held fast to the star on one end and whipping violently on the other. The star was in its death throes. The crescent like incision seemed to expand, but it was an illusion. The star was expanding almost to the point where it reached the energy bands emanating from the ship. More and more bands of fire flicked the surface of the energy envelope. The star expanded even more releasing billions of years of energy within a few seconds. Then like clockwork the star exploded within its artificial energy prison.
Not all the energy from the nova could be collected, but most of it was. What wasn’t collected would leave the energy net at nearly luminal speeds as extremely high energy particles. These particles could escape the energy net and were thus unsalvageable; energy lost to the universe forever as it traveled an infinite distance.
The humans that built the ship that controlled energy net could now begin their work.
P.S.: maybe if you refer instead of "the humans that built the ship", just the "Captain of the ship", referring as only one can lead, but we all follow. I don't know, that's my opinion...
