Lalala...don't know what to call this..

Oh, the perseverance of human beings, how they have struggled and fought their long battles in the war against death, the only thing keeping them going throughout the battle being their own will to live.

Let us admire the beauty, the ability to adapt, the obvious intelligence, and the superiority of a human being. But let us frown upon the many flaws and imperfections.

Let us accept the fact that humans are puny, pathetic, weak ... and mortal. Let it be understood that humans are only humans, born with death inscribed on their destiny - an inescapable end that they are chained to.

And so humans have attempted to become more than what they already are. They are not content with what they have. But then again, who would be content, when the time in which they exist would be naught but a mere blink of an eye in the span of the universe, and when nothing they would ever do would ever amount to much at all?

Man curses the universe. He has wept because he has so little control over life as its entirety. He wants to be the judge of who dies and who lives - how he lives and how he dies.

That is why man has turned to technology, machines, and robots. He looks into the face of a lifeless mechanical device made of cold, hard steel and say to it, “I want to be like you. I want to last forever. I want to exist and I want to be strong.”

Thus, they strive to become something else – something less human, and something less weak. But despite it all, he has a feeling creeping up on him; a feeling that this can never be true.

Humans are humans. They are born to die.

MaoTheCat is an unknown quantity at this point
This doesn't appear to be a short story, it's more of a meditation.

It's told from a four-and-a-quarter dimension but there's only one present, from what I can tell.
