10 Minute Timed 3-way.

2 of my close friends and I wrote a story on a topic randomly picked from a bowl. The person who picked the topic would have 10 minutes to write a story, and then crumble it up for the next person when they were done.

Topic =

"A genetically engineered banana tries to escape from the grocery store."

We took turns with a 10-minute time limit. For example; We started at 8:00 and stopped at 8:10, wherever we were. 10 minutes goes by fast. So that was 30 minutes taken from our weekend relaxation in total. Thought I'd post this.

1st

Publix. 4:15 P.M. The grocery store was bustling with activity. Customers moved to and fro, seeking bargains for the necessities of life. These innocent people had no idea that something very unusual was about to happen right under their noses….
In the fruit section, one banana stood out from the rest. His name- yes, his name- was Jack. Jack was no ordinary banana. Jack was a genetically-engineered banana, and he wanted freedom.
Jack glimpsed off of the shelf to potential escape routes. A few young people, some parents here and there, but nothing satisfactory. That is of course, until he saw the old lady.
This senior citizen had an eye for fruit, and was rapidly approaching the banana section. Jack knew this was his only chance. He turned his best shade of yellow and tried to look sexy and appealing. Sure enough, the old lady picked him out.

The cashier did not notice the genetically engineered banana, nor did the bagboy. However, most of us know him today as: Jack, The Ruler of the Known Universe.

Dole looked around at his companions, unsure of what they were thinking. He, was thinking of the cruel imprisonment that befallen onto him after he was picked at a banana plantation in Columbia and tore away from his family. Dole wasn’t a usual banana, he was different, but he never realized it.
“ Are you guys to scared to escape, to better your lives, to enjoy the rest of your time, or am I the only fruit here that’s going to leave this place?” Silence from the other bananas. Dole angrily hopped down from the shelve, careful not to bruise himself, and looked around the grocery store. I must find a way out! He thought to himself. A few humans rolled their grocery carts past him, seeing a limp banana on the floor, and moved on. Dole was smart enough to know that if he was seen, they’re would be a lot of explaining to do.
Dole ran past the aisles smelling his freedom growing stronger and stronger. A banana wasn’t engineered for this exhausting work and on his way out the front door, he contemplated spending his first night’s sleep as a free banana on the curb just outside the store. But Dole was too determined, he trudged on. Dole was passing what he thought was a large gray clearing, with white lines and yellow glass in the middle. Dole had never seen a car before and he never would, as he felt an enormous pressure of a tire on his back, then he died.
The pair of smarter bananas were now in a family’s home. As the crew waited for nightfall to come to make their daring but easy escape from the house, they laughed at poor stupid Dole and his crazy schemes.

Professor Tenant Berkley was running as fast as he had ever ran in his life. He stopped for a breather next to a community plaza sign. It read:
KING’S PLAZA - HONGRO’S GROCERY STORE - PARTY SHOP - PAYLESS SHOES - MINKA’S FABRICS
He screamed “You can’t do this! You are not allowed outside the lab!” He looked around, in every corner of the street, for a sign of the banana.
Damnit, he thought.
He was struggling with that to do next. He looked around again for some kind of clue.
“HONGO’S GROCERY STORE” Under the name there was an advertisement for the company
“The best bananas in the world.”
“Gotcha!” he said, grinning.
The Professor, picking up his white lab coat, started running again.
He made his way through a crowd of men unloading boxes into the back of a truck, and came to the entrance of the grocery store. He entered the double doors and jogged into the fruit isle.
“Where are you you little…”
He was cut off by a bird-like shriek.
“Potassium is the key to evolution, Professor! We must bring them to life!”
The banana was standing on a pile of bags. Each stuffed with yellow bananas.
“I AM THE MESSIAH OF BANANAS!” it yelled maniacally.
The professor tried to grab it. The banana dodged his hand, and laughed.
“You lab-rat! Can’t you see? You designed me with leader-like qualities. It’s my nature to take over!”
“Can’t you listen to yourself!” the professor retorted.

Chris Miller is an unknown quantity at this point
I lean towards 1, because it is grammatically best, and because it doesn't try to bite off more than it can chew (in such a short time). Cute escape and ending too.

Alice - it's a genetically engineered banana. Anything can happen.
