The Hopeless Fight
Well, I had to write this for a University (To get a conditional offer). It was a challenge, since I was given a list of words, and had to use each word twice, only in different contexts O_o (See if you can spot them ^^).
~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Hopeless Fight
They had promised to guide us to a place where there was no hatred, no fear- just pure equality. But they had lied. It had become similar to the Lend-Lease. They, the government, supplied my ‘kind’ as slaves, pets, or whatever for the people outside our prison. In return, the people allowed them to abuse their power- and us- even further.
We were categorised as ‘nothings’; stamped with invisible markings that only theyhad the power to see.
Iron shackles bound us to damp corroding stone walls, restricting us from any movement or freedom that we deeply longed for. Sometimes we were displayed to the people on the outside as if we were wonderful masterpieces, though we hardly looked stunning.
We lived on stale mouldy bread they gave us once every two days and dirty warm water that tasted like raw sewage. Some of us were so skinny that you could see the outline of our bones through our greying skin. Many of us died from starvation or pathetic colds that could have easily been cured, but they didn’t care. We could simply be replaced, like a pair of worn out shoes.
I had already reached my glass ceiling and I realised that I wouldn’t be breaking out of this horrific nightmare. It was my turn to die; I had refused to become a pawn in their cruel game of chess.
Ironically, I had always relied on my conscience to guide me. This time it had let me down.
I closed my eyes and bit down hard on my lower lip while they had kicked me around like an unwanted rag doll. That’s all we were to them, mere toys that were to be chucked away once we were spoilt or had little use to them.
I was certainly no puppet.
An iron bar suddenly came crashing down against my skull, blurring my vision and distorting my thoughts as I vainly attempted to stay standing. For a few seconds I swayed back and forth almost drunkenly like a pendulum before I collapsed to the ground with a dull thud.
My fingernails feebly scraped along the cobbled flooring as they surrounded me, the end was near. I had been a puppet all along, and now they had cut the strings that had once supported me.
“Allow us to lend you a hand…”
One of the men brought his foot down hard and stamped on my battered body harshly. I felt the bones in my arm shatter like fragile glass before he chuckled sadistically.
“… In putting you out of your misery!”
I had been caged and treated like a wild animal and now, fittingly, I was to die like one. Now, the pendulum of my life was slowly losing momentum as I weakly battled with the darkness that was consuming me. It was hopeless.
It was a fight that no one would ever win alone…
Very nice (I mean the writing, not the events that happen in the story)
If I had to guess at the list of words, I would say:
guide, power, pendulum, and stamped.
I look forward to seeing how wrong I am.
This was sad, but very well written. Very emotional. I was going to say Lend and Pendulum...aha!
Nice job
