Note (a dwarf)
Note
Hi. I wanted to apologize for the mess. If there was any other way, I wouldn’t have left it for you to clean up. I won’t kid you and me both, I never could clean up a mess, which is why I’m typing this out for you to read. I’ll leave it here, won’t even waste the paper. This way, you can delete it after you’ve read it. Maybe you’ll write something new in its place. I hope you write something new. I hope this doesn’t hurt you the way it hurts me. It’ll be over soon, I promise. Bye.
*these are fantastic little writing exercises that really get the brain going. 101 words max, including the title.
*it is 101 words exactly kitty. go me.

exactly. thank you for reading and commenting.
i'm very curious to see what people think of this, in particular, what they think the purpose of the note is and what the "mess" is.
by all means, please think out loud.

well, I take this mess as that of a relationship. Somehow there is something the other needs to pick up...like not saying enough...or doing enough. Not sure. Bah...vodka is clouding my mind.

See, to me the relationship aspect is too obvious, but being late at night, ill go with it. The mess is a regretful night where you and that close friend had a bit too much to drink, things went a very different route than they ever had. One of the two woke up before the other and had realized the mistake and also found the midget. These things happen. Midgets are hard to get rid of the morning after

All too true...
Well I figure since the writer is leaving the note on a computer that isn't theirs while they are relatively sure the intended reader will come across it. The obvious conclusion I first came to was that the two parties were in a relationship and one messes up pretty bad(I envisioned the man doing it cus leaving a goodbye note on a computer seems more like something a man would do). Instead of creating more conflict(maybe they have been having problems awhile and he/she knows where it will lead) he/she leaves the note and leaves supposedly with both their best interests in mind.

This is what makes it more of a serious relationship type dealie for me. If you took that out then it could be just a regular every day note apologizing for some mess that the writer couldn't stick around to clean up themselves.
The "It'll be over soon" part kinda threw me for a loop. First reaction to that was suicide because that's like the cliche run of the mill phrase used to hint at some sort of suicidal thought. If you take it as "you'll soon forget about me and the pain of no longer having me will end" it somehow doesn't sound right.
Then again, maybe he/she IS going to commit suicide because they see no other way out and he/she is apologizing for the emotional/social mess they will leave behind. I don't know what to tell you man, this could be interpreted in a number of ways but the way that most closely fits in my eyes is the obvious.

Feels a little to me like you're cluttering up the shorts forum with breakup angst. Couldn't you just email her?

what intriguing thoughts. thank you all for sharing. i tend to be a fan of the obvious, yet this story is anything but. who is leaving the mess? what is the mess? is it possible that this is an actual physical mess? what if this was a cancer patient apologizing for s***ing and puking all over the place? what if this is a suicide note?
sxthorton: midgets?
sigg: wow. thanks for sharing your thoughts and really getting into this story.

Sometimes I think we shoudl come to our own conclusions.
I thought suicide because of the note aspect.
