Gnash/Atone

One day, as the little Chihuahua
was gasping his final dying sigh,
a lot of happiness occurred to him:

No longer did he wish
for any earthly possession.
No longer did he ponder
all of the wrong things he had done.
No longer did he seek
the recognition of another.
No longer did he sense the schism
among he and his associates.
No longer did he frown in torment
over his daily taskings.
No longer did he dwell upon
vindictive thoughts against his enemies.
No longer did he worry for tomorrow
no longer did he worry for today.

While it had been
a very brief moment in time,
the little Chihuahua
had indeed known love once...
It had remained the highest point
of his vague happiness to this very second.
A beautiful thing which he
reflected upon each day
with a tear... or a smile.
Everyday was he grateful to have had it,
if only for a little while,
EVERYDAY!!!!!

He died then and entered the gates
of our Lord's immaculate Heaven.
Where Saint Maria walks him frequently
and never hits him with the newspaper
when he poops on the carpet.
Our little doggie
barks gleefully all of the time now
as David and Goliath
play their harps for him
in perfect harmony.
He scurries about the clouds
and enjoys his blessed eternity without
any recollection of his troubling days
back here on this confusing world
so long ago...
FIN
