The Demon Lilith
The Demon Lilith
~A Strange but True Tale~
Once upon a time
there was a little girl
who was born on
Yom Kippur,
a very auspicious holiday,
the most holy day of the
Jewish year...
it was the day of atonement,
the day of judgment.
Her grandmothers and
great-grandmothers,
(who were all there
at her home birth)
were frightened for her.
There was a belief
among the old Jewish women
of the island,
(who themselves
had been daughters
of practicing
Kabbalists)
that female children
born on
Yom Kippur
were in fact daughters of
the
Jewish Demon Lilith...
and those souls
whose destiny it was to
cross life's paths
with Lilith's daughters
were in for quite a cosmic
lashing...
but even worse
for the daughter's of Lilith
themselves
who would have none
but the vilest
of souls enter into
their lives
presented to them
for judgement...
Within a few years
it became obvious
that the little girl was
no ordinary child.
She had been born
with what some might call,
'gifts',
which was another
'sign of the curse'
that indeed
she truly was
a daughter of Lillith!
She could leave
her physical body
at will,
and fly around
in spirit,
or just walk around the house
for that matter.
She also had
visions;
powerful frightening
glimpses into the cosmic void,
the world of spirits.
The girl had the ability to know
just by looking at someone
if they were soon to die...
She also had the ability
to heal others
with just
her touch,
but this was at great risk
to her own health,
so she quickly learned
to be careful who she
touched....
At the age of 12
the girl had a
vision
so powerful
that it left her
temporarily unable to
speak,
hard as she tried to describe
what had happened
only guttural sounds emitted
from her mouth...
This experience was her
turning point...
her
'Epiphany'
she became a
student in her life journey...
Enter
'The Experts'...
the scientists, the doctors,
the writers, the researchers...
all wanting to probe,
measure & find
'the source' of the girls
'gifts'...
All manner of instruments
were strapped
to her head and body...
measuring her
Alpha,
Beta,
Theta
and Delta
waves...
They also performed
numerous 'tests'
upon the girl...
making sure there were
no lesions in her brain...
no irregularities,
nothing that could
be traced back
to an organic cause!
Satisfied that the girl's 'gifts'
stemmed from 'a source'
beyond what could be
measured in the laboratory,
the writers
began interviewing the girl
and she ended up
in various books
put out by
'The Experts'...
The girl became known as a
'Case Study'...
Meanwhile,
visions/studies continued,
but life went on,
the girl grew up,
went to college, married and
began to have children...
She suffered
through three husbands,
three divorces,
and birthed three daughters,
and one son...
Searching for
the true meaning within
her complicated extraordinary life
she began to explore
various
'disciplines'
~
-Comparative Religions-
-Philosophy-
-Yoga-
-Martial Arts-
-Psychotherapy-
-Metaphysics-
-Quantum Physics-
-String Theory-
-Tibetan Buddhism-
-Kabbalah-
Still unsatisfied,
she decided it was time
to begin
a new
career...
-Publishing-
Account Executive
It only seemed natural
since the girl,
now a woman,
had spent so much
of her life around
writers...
'The Case Study'
now
studied
them...
However
these were not
the same kind
of writers
she had known before
These were full of
great passions
but mostly
INSATIABLE
NEED
they encircled
themselves with many
kinds of friends...
circles within circles,
within
circles
and they all ran
rampant
with
-intensity-
Knowing of her 'gifts'
they were relentless
consuming...
Overwhelmed
she felt as if she were being
devoured
by their emotions
'Heal Us!'
'Love Us!'
'Forgive Us!'
they would not stop
grasping at her
Their touch became
unbearable...
Her visions ran to
memories
of childhood flights above
the islands of the hawks
-North Atlantic Ridge-
-The Peaks of Atlantis-
-The AZores-
She yearned to
once again
sit under the Cypress tree
at the edge of the cliff
wrapped in the arms
of her grandmothers
while the rythmn
of ocean waves
lulled
Lilith's daughter
gently
to
sleep...
to
dream...

Interesting story but I wouldn't call it a poem. The rhythm, sentence structure, word choice, everything reads like a story.

Thanks Kat--
I wouldn't call it a poem either, but where do you think I should post this piece then? I am new to this site...still don't know my way around very well.

I'd reformat it into traditional sentence, paragraph structure before you post it there. It wouldn't take much.

Lilia, let me move it and then remove the other one, that way you can keep your comments. What do you think?

Okay DBVH .. now that is quite enough cheering from the rogue's gallery.
Lilia - personally I would view this as a poem but who cares? I enjoyed reading it and I'm not someone who has a .. um ... vested interest in your story. In our life the ones who seem to trouble us the deepest are those who can't even begin to understand. true?
