Thread: The "BRIEF" of what I wrote. (Over 1 year)

During the past year, (03/07/2007--03/12/200 I comprised a collection of writings I want the world to read.

The story I've written is just spectacular.

Answer to all these questions: you don't.

Nobody is interested in buying a scrapbook and trying top make something out it.

If you want to sell a screenplay, write a screenplay. Or at least a treatment.

If you want to sell a story, write the story.

Selling lyrics is almost impossible.

Anybody can toss all their random thoughts in a sack. Writing is the task of arranging them to be read.

Your work sounds like an inflated diary the way you pitch it. It's great that you are writing, but if you want a sellable product, you have to make one and take it to market. No one is going to polish your stuff, they've got better things to do and already polished and great stuff is coming to them. It'd be like your favorite band recording a few guitar riffs, some drum beats with a print out of possible lyrics and expecting their fans to imagine the song all together.

So, take a moment, go get a job (cause writing doesn't sound like your immediate answer) and organize what you have into a story, or part of what you have. I'm not familiar with how you should become a lyracist, but I'd recommend experience. Know any bands that need lyrics? That's a good way to try out your stuff and see if people like it.
As far as film production companies, get some representation and a manuscript because they won't take you seriously otherwise.

You have a very immature way of looking at your goals, Topher. Unless you're interested in mind control or can get a hold of a director with the questionable calibur of, say, Roger Coreman there is no way you're ever going to find a Hollywood corporation to turn your untested story into a feature. Even if you manage to market a successful book, that's no gaurentee. And just getting a book published can take years of unrelenting, agonizing work. We can't all be Christopher Paolini. And as for finding a record label to turn your songs into "pop hits," it's just not going to happen. My step brother has a band and has signed with a local record company to produce a CD, but his music is still virtually unknown.

If you're broke, get a job. Even authors who have made it as far as your local Barns & Noble still keep day jobs because the life of an author does not pay the rock star salary which you apparently think it does. Besides, having a day job can really inspire your creativity, even if through feelings of hate. And stop thinking you have all the answers. Sometimes being a writer can make you feel like you're the next Hemmingway (or whoever you aspire to) but you're just a guy, with a pen, and some ideas that when you reach the cold, hard truth of life may only seem interesting to you.

If you still want help, take some creative writing classes, buy the latest copy of Writer'sMarket, and if you feel like it post some of your work on the forum for people to critique. I said I would look at some of your stuff, I'll only review it here.

Not often you get such unanimous opinions around, Topher. I'd take it under deep consideration.

If you don't know how to weave a story through your expierences, you're not fit to be a writer.

Give up.

Don;t listen to that ToothTeller asshole. He's never sold a word in his life and probably hasn't even ever written anything. You learn that after awhile on this forum.
