Thread: genre

im writing a script that goes from a romance, into a drama, into a slasher, into a supernatural, into a thriller, (its all dun through a journey through the eyes of one character, so it makes sence)

but i cant write romance 2 save my life.

any advice?

besides that, i realy need some padding out for it, the rate im going it will only be about 50 pages long, max. :S

Seriously, I know what you mean. I have a screenplay I'm dying to finish, but I really lack the insight into two major areas of the film. One being cubicle office-ville and the way people talk there. The other being, essentially "black urban dialog as off now, not five years ago when I was last around it".

I've felt around for somebody to help me with it, but had little luck.

In other words... Can't help you much.

EXCEPT--I think you'd better on forums more devoted to screenwriting. This is a great forum, but scripts are not the long suit here and there are almost no qualified screenwriters posting here.

If I were in your position, here's what I would do. (If you're way ahead of me, I'm not patronizing you, just trying to suggest)

Sign up on some forums where there is more weight behind the screenwriting aspects. First would be absolutewrite.com, where they have a script section somewhat more pro than this one.

Next would be Triggerstreet.com where you can post short sections and scenes for critique. (You can also post finished plays there and, you'll dig this, short films)

Next step up would be Zoetrope.com a peer review site with some pretty qualified people. Go into the screenplay discussion area and just plain ask if anybody would like to collaborate or write for hire on the romance part of your script.

A note here...without knowing where you are at or how good you are...learn all about format and stuff before posting on the latter two sites. It's a waste to post scripts there and just get feedback on formatting issues.

And this one...if you run into somebody who can handle this for you and can afford to just pay them to do those scenes you're better off than saddling your film with a co-writer.

You've got no problem, lengthwise. Most people are straining and grunting to try to get their film down under 120 pages. This sounds like it should run around 90pp. You can always add more as the idea matures. If you get another writer involved, that might help. Why not post a scene here, give us a look at you?
