    who's the fool?... a 'monologue' can be used in either of the mediums i mentioned... and whether it's good/works or not depends to some extent on how it's to be used...

    as for your unknowledgeable 'usually':
    monologues are just as frequently used in one-man/woman shows and stand-up comic routines as they are 'spoken...to other characters'...
