Filming and thereby actually achieving something is fun but starting the whole planning and writing process is hard. I thought it might be helpful to use this forum as a source of inspiration and support. Perhaps a short film challenge could be a good idea? The stress is on the word challenge so it woudn't be a contest - unless people want to vote. The aim is to push people from just surfing on the web to actually writing, planning and shooting something.
Here are some thoughts.
First we should discuss and come up with a theme that should somehow be incorporated to all of the films. This can be a relatively simple theme, such as karma, revenge or loneliness or a more complicated idea such as a modern fairytale (stole this from the Literary Manouvers) etc. If we want, we can also decide on more detailed things (such as there is to be a hallucination or a flashback - wait, on second thought, no obligatory flashbacks). These can also include visual looks or sounds.
Then we decide on a deadline. This should be a relatively short time period, maybe a month or even less. This is to keep the process fresh and kicking. Perfection, while an admirable goal, is not what should be aimed for. The goal is to force people to create.
We should also decide on the maximum length of the film. I think something around two or three minutes would be good. We can also discuss about the languages. I think the films shouldn't have to be in English but in that case subtitles would be nice.
After that comes the hard part (working). We could share ideas and get feedback during the planning and writing. That way we can all affect each others' work and I think it would be very rewarding to actually see the finished works.
Finally we'd post our films and feel very good about ourselves. Oh, and also give constructive feedback.
So, would you be interested in something like this? Remember that you don't have to be a "good" film maker to take part. I am a petty amateur myself. I use a standard digital video camera and I know very little about angles, lighting or sounds. If you are eager to give it a shot, that is enough
If we can get even a few people to participate this could work.
