For the first time, I'm thinking of suggesting a curtain call for a play I'm working on. What I have in mind relates to the substance of the play and gives the offstage voice a further chance to be involved.

As a director, I've had other writers' scripts with such suggestions and (don't kill me here) mostly dismissed them. Of course, with LEND ME A TENOR (didn't direct, played Tito) we did the fast-motion replay call and I really enjoyed it (except that an actor almost broke a leg backstage and couldn't make the final bow).

Questions:

1) From writers' viewpoints, how do you feel about suggesting curtain calls?

2) Again as writers, do you feel these suggestions a definite part of the play?

3) From playreading standpoints, do you think it hurts the play's chances?

Thanks in advance for your considerations,
