Fallout-Game based script. 2 pgs a day
11 pages so far. From now on, I will post updates on top.
Hello all, I will try to write a script based on the Fallout game series, writing 2 pages a day (except holidays), and hopefully I will finish it. Criticism would be nice! Also suggestions are very welcome! This is actually 11 pages in Final Draft, but pasting it in here messed with the format, so it looks a lot shorter than 11. Anyway, here ya go, Fallout:
EXT. STREET - AFTERNOON
A barren street, lined with stores and cafe’s. Camera is moving to the right, slowly, capturing the name of each store. The camera catches up to a limping man, who suddenly stops and looks at someone. The camera stays on the man. Then, the camera cuts to the man’s face to reveal a half hidden head. Shadows cover most of the left side of his face including his right eye. His mouth is a thin slit, and he seems expressionless. During this entire scene, a cheery 50’s tune is playing softly.
MAN
I don’t reckon ya know where the shoe repair shop is round’ here, now would ya? Need to fix ma shoes.
CUT TO:
A shot of the man’s shoes. They are nearly mauled off, as if someone has been chewing them for the past year. They are torn in many places and obviously beyond repair.
CUT TO:
Man’s face. Again he is emotionless.
O.S. ROBOTIC VOICE
I’m sorry sir, but I don’t recognize that particular location. You could name another destination if you wish, sir. I will do my best to find it.
MAN
How bout Hell? Sure would be better than this shithole.
O.S. ROBOTIC VOICE
I’m sorry sir, but I don’t recognize that particular location. Any other location you would like me to find?
MAN
Naa, ya useless bucket o’ bolts.
O.S. ROBOTIC VOICE
Thank you for using mark E-7-9-1
(trails off)
CUT TO:
A camera shot behind the now visible robot. It looks like a 1950’s interpretation of A.I.; bucket shaped, with many flashing lights. But here, it looks weathered and gritty from rust. The edges are sharper and less perfect, something you wouldn't see in 1950 cinema. The man takes out a long, cyberpunk looking revolver. He aims at the robot, who is still chanting his mark number, waits 3 seconds, and then shoots it. The robot is knocked back and falls down, motionless. The camera cuts to the mans face, now visible. A weathered 50-ish looking man, with a scar on the left side of his face. He looks down at the robot for a few seconds, and then slowly turns his head to his right. The camera cuts to a shot where we can see across the street. There is a pool chair there. It seems unnaturally clean. The camera cuts to a side shot of the man as he begins walking, slowly. He gets to the chair, and slowly sits himself down. Camera cuts to his front, where he reaches and gets out a lone cigarette. He puts it his mouth, takes out his revolver, and pulls a side switch on the gun that acts as a lighter. He lights the cigarette, but doesn’t inhale. He aims the revolver at the dead robot (camera is still on his front), and whispers:
MAN
(Quietly)
Bang, bang... your dead.
FADE TO BLACK.
The words “Fallout” appear. As this happens the music kicks up a little. At the end of the credit sequence, The camera cuts to a nuclear wasteland. We see an entire city almost leveled, full of half melted buildings, some whole, and some just falling apart. The air is visibly thick and everything looks barren. Shouting can now be heard. The camera cuts to an empty street. A man from the left side of the street enters, running away and looking back. Shots are heard. We see a gang of people running in the same direction. They hold shotguns and rifles. There are about seven of them. The camera switches over to a telephone booth. The man enters the view and quickly goes behind the booth. He is in his twenties. He looks into the camera’s general direction. We can see the gang enter behind the telephone boot. The people stop. One of them shouts.
GANG LEADER
Wastelander! Just give us the fucking purifier!
WASTELANDER
Sorry, but I just don't see myself staying alive after ya get your hands on it!
GANG LEADER
Got no choice, wastelander!... You have until 10!... 1... 2...
While the leader is counting, the WL pulls open his jacket, gets a grenade, and turns his head to his side to listen...
GANG LEADER (CONT’D)
...7...8...
He chucks the grenade at ten. The gang members notice and scatter in different directions. We see a huge blast after a few seconds and the WL starts running. The camera cuts to a zoomed out over the shoulder view, and follows very quickly as the WL runs through the maze of barren buildings. We hear shouting in the background. The gang is not happy. He runs into a half destroyed building, with literally half of it blow off, and picks up a few of the floor boards, where we see stairs leading downwards. The camera switches to the underground stairwell, looking up at the WL, and follows him down.
WASTELANDER
Turn on the fucking lights Grarick! I can’t see anything!
In the dark we hear a switch and after a few seconds, the lights are turned on. We see the WL squinting, hand over his eyes. Camera cuts to an over the shoulder perspective and we see an old man with reading glasses, thick with dust, sitting in a high bar stool. His hand is still on the switch. To his left is a giant, 14 foot high vault door. The old man gets up slowly, and goes to a console to the right of the vault. The WL turns his head following the old man, and the camera turns in near-synch with the WL’s head. The old man punches a few numbers, and we hear a deep roar. The vault opens up, and the WL starts walking towards it. He goes inside, and offscreen. The old man walks over (camera follows, still in the same over the shoulder position) to the light switch, shuts it off (now the only light is coming from the open vault), and goes inside. We see him type something into a computer console and the vault shuts tight. Screen is black. The camera switches to the inside of a brightly lit underground bunker. Camera is facing the WL as he walks towards the camera at medium pace. Garick quickly catches up to him.
GARICK
The Overseer is in the common room, he’ll take the purifier into the downstairs chamber.
WASTELANDER
I won’t give shit to him until he gives me the bike, Garick. I know his barter tricks, and it’s all pretty talk and petty lies.
GARICK
Now, the Overseer has-
WASTELANDER
Yeah, yeah, I know Garick. He’s provided food, shelter, and education, right? All ya have to give him is your rights and freedom’s. Once that’s done it’s all shits and giggles... Ya ever heard of a man named Stalin, Garick?
Garick just looks over to the WL and shakes his head. They both turn the corner and the camera cuts to an over the shoulder perspective. The two stand in a doorway. Inside is a darkened room, where a lone man sits, filling out paperwork. He is very pale and in his mid 40’s. He looks up after they wait for a few moments. Garick hurriedly pats the WL on the shoulder and leaves him.
OVERSEER
I’m glad you made it. I was beginning to worry about you...
WASTELANDER
Fucking up?
OVERSEER
Yes... your life is very viable in my plan to bring this... this shithole back to living conditions.
WASTELANDER
Whatever man, I just want the bike.
OVERSEER
Yes... the bike. You see Jeffery, the bike is actually in another place... A
garage actually, a mile out of town. My apologies for the inconvi-
JEFF
Piece of shit, I knew there was something to this-
The OS approaches Jeff and the camera switches to an over the shoulder perspective behind him. Camera slowly follows as he gets closer to Jeff.
OVERSEER
No tricks, Jeffery,
(holds his hand out in front of him)
it’s just a matter of location. This machine is old, and badly worn, and naturally huge.
Camera switches to show the OS face.
OVERSEER (CONT’D)
We have no place in this tiny bunker, Jeffery. But I do know where it’s located, and I do have the keys.
JEFF O.S.
...Your lucky people actually believe in your bullshit, otherwise there would be a revolution in this ‘shithole’.
OVERSEER
Oh, Jeffery, you and that blindfold over your eyes don’t understand how these people hunger for someone to tell them what to do, to show them a simpler way of living. How to eat, how to sleep, how to shit... your getting me off subject, Jeffery. Here are your keys and map. Leave before I change my mind.
Jeff glares at OS, then storms out. Camera switches to a side view as Jeff walks deeper into the vault. He walks for a little while looking into rooms, where we can see children, teens, even the elderly. All of them are doing something that looks like it’s from a classic advertisement for cigarettes: The dad sits smoking as the children play around his couch. The mom is cooking something for the kids, smoking the whole time. He passes a room where teens are smoking, playing cards. He passes another where he sees an entire family smoking. The kid is mock smoking with an unlit cigarette. Jeff turns the corner and goes into his room. Camera switches to a pretty, young 19 year old girl, smoking of course. She is reading a magazine and doesn’t look up as Jeff enters the room, sits beside her and takes the cigarette from her mouth. He flings it into the wastebasket. She quickly looks up, face full of anger.
TAMMY
What the fuc-
Camera switches over to each face as they talk.
JEFF
Look!
(He jingles the keys)
TAMMY
(looking at the keys indifferently)
Jeff, my cig-
JEFF
Tammy, these are for the bike!
TAMMY
(Looks dumbstruck for a second)
What? How'd you get those?
JEFF
I told you, I was getting the purifier for the overseer. You were to busy reading your
(looks at the magazine and flicks with his finger)
... to realize I-
Tammy embraces him, the camera is shown from a top-side view, capturing the two hugging, then kissing. He pulls her away.
JEFF (CONT’D)
...Listen, I can’t stand this place anymore, let’s get the fuck out.
TAMMY
Where are we gonna go?
JEFF
I’m thinking vault 89... Buffout, Jet, Mentants, Stimpacks, they have lifetime supplies of that shit there, Tam.
Camera is still switching between them while they are talking.
TAMMY
(she looks at him for a couple of seconds, then a huge grin appears in her face.)
I always wated to go there... Junkies paradise. Just the though of sex and Jet...
(She rolls her eyes up and falls on the bed. Her head turns to Jeff)
Your my hero Jeff...
JEFF
...Tam, let’s go.
FADE TO:
The camera is positioned 10 feet from the secret entrance in the half-blown house. We hear footsteps, and then we the floorboards getting picked up. The two get out, both are now armed. Camera switches to 4 feet away from Jeff and Tammy’s front, and it movies back as they get out. When they are fully out Tammy moves to the side and looks out into the wasteland, eyes covering her eyes. Jeff gets out his map and looks at intently.
JEFF (CONT’D)
We have to go east about half a mile on foot, then turn into the alley between the plaza hotel and gift shop...
(He looks in Tammy’s direction)
What’s wrong?
Camera switches to Tammy’s face looking out into the heat. Then is switches to her perspective, and we see smoke coming out.
TAMMY
Nothing, just a fire... let’s go.
The camera switches to the outside of the building. They both get out and pull out their weapons. Tammy holds a shotgun, Jeff a revolver. The camera is set 20 feet off, facing their left sides. They begin to slowly walk east. The camera follows the, a little off-synch. The camera’s path gets obstructed by a house, but it still follows their movement. The house gets passed by, and both are still walking the same way. They walk for another 10 seconds and suddenly to their far right, a small explosion can be seen, seemingly from a grenade. Camera switches facing their right side, up close. Both their heads are facing the right direction.
JEFF
(Turning his head to her)
Tam, get behind that wall.
(He motions behind her with his head. She looks there, nods and runs to cover her ass. He stars running to the opposite end.)
The camera switches to a stationary position about 20 feet away, where there can be seen the alley in the middle where the explosion occurred, The two houses on the west and east, and Jeff and Tammy running to cover behind each house. They both look carefully into the alley, which is covered in dust from the receding explosion. The camera switches to a close up of the alley. Out of dust we hear footsteps. They get louder and suddenly a person emerges, covered in a strange gas mask and desert attire. He is running opposite. The camera switches to a behind shot of the running person. We hear a shotgun blast, and the person falls to the floor, motionless. The camera cuts to Tammy holding a smoking shotgun. She quickly presses against the wall and looks, camera is now focused on the alley again. We hear footsteps again, but not running. Slowly and man emerges, no mask, mostly rags for attire. He is black, mid 30’s and emerges slowly with his hands up. He is has a slight, weary smile on his face. Camera switches to Jeff as he approaches the man, and cuts to a side view of the man and Jeff (who is pointing his gun at him).
JEFF (CONT’D)
Were you with that raider?
MAN
You mean that son-of-a-bitch over there?
(Camera switches to the corpse, from the man’s perspective, then back to his face)
Naa, man. He tried to steal my trade.
(the whole time he is talking he is staring into Jeff’s eyes)
I had to grenade his ass.
JEFF
Really?
MAN
Yeah, man.
Jeff looks over to Tam. He motions her over with his head. She comes over. Camera is on her while she is coming, then switches over to the same side perspective as it was before.
TAMMY
So we got a traveling salesman over here.
(She grins, and so does the salesman, but his is more synthetic, a little annoyed even; cynical)
Jeff and Tam both looks at each other. Then they look at the salesman. Jeff opens his mouth as if to say something then closes it. He opens it again.
JEFF
You don’t happen to have any Jet, do you?
SALESMAN
Looks like we got a pair of junkies on out hands... Yeah, I got chems. Hell, I’ll give ya some for free just for finishing off that bastard.
EXT. OUTSIDE - NIGHT
Camera fades. It fades in to the three sitting around a lit fire behind a building. It’s night out, and they are sitting close together. Camera cuts to salesman. He is reaching into his backpack. He gets out a large industrial syringe, and passes it to Jeff. He get a little vile of liquid from the pack and also passes it to Jeff. He finally takes off his belt and ties it around his own arm. The camera switches to Jeff carefully measuring the vile with his eyes and proceeding to suck up the liquid with the syringe. He looks over towards the salesman, and lowers his arms. He gives a snort of laughter.
JEFF
Didn’t we save your ass back there? We oughta get privilege of being first.
SALESMAN
(Looking with his cynical look at Jeff)
I have been through hell man. A gang banger tried to steal my shit, a ghoul tried to steal my shit, a robot tried to steal my shit
(Jeff laughs.)
Yeah, I know. A rouge android or something, wanted some water because he thought he was thirsty. And the rest- Well you already know the rest...
JEFF
I get it man.
SALESMAN
Come on kid, hurry the hell up.
Jeff injects Jet into the salesman and the camera switches to a top view of him collapsing on his back in delight. His eyes are closed, and he has a grin on his face. He begins to talk, and the camera, very slowly, starts zooming in on his face. This is done very subtly.
SALESMAN (CONT’D)
...You know, life here in the wasteland ain’t that bad if you think about it. I mean you got the excitement, the adventure, fresh bimbo’s to pick. Man, you even got cheap drugs... higher than high, and enjoying every... Fucking... second... You know wastelander, I feel that wherever your going, no matter what corner of this shitstain of a planet ya go to, you’ll find what you want... and not only drugs man, but the truth...
JEFF O.S.
Truth, huh?
SALESMAN
I feel it in my
(He vigorously points at his skull)
Head or something... It may be the drugs talking... But I feel it.
JEFF O.S.
I think it’s the drugs, man.
We hear Jeff injecting the needle, and see his hand pass it Tam. He then also collapses backwards, right next to the shot of the salesman. The camera fades
EXT. OUTSIDE - MORNING
The camera fades into the three standing over a burned out fire. They all look worn out by last night. Jeff puts a hand on the salesman’s shoulder, who nods silently. They leave him and go in opposite directions. Everything is done silently, the only thing heard is the blowing sand. The camera now is on the front of Jeff and Tammy.
TAMMY
How much further?
JEFF
(getting out his map and looking hard at it, almost squinting)
It’s actually pretty close by. Don’t worry Tam, we’ll get there.
(He doesn’t offer any reassuring expression on his face... he is skeptical. Suddenly he raises his hand and points at a building not too far. The camera cuts briefly to the building, then back to the previous shot.
Right there.
Tammy now starts getting a worried expression. The camera switches to about 15 feet away, facing their left sides. They wait for 3 seconds and begin walking, very carefully. On their fourth step they each reach for their guns. The camera follows as a ominous chime kicks in. They continue walking and walking. This goes on for about 10 seconds, but nothing happens. The camera stops following them, but they stop in their place, and then jog. They go offscreen. The picture is held for several seconds. The camera switches over to the roof of their destination building. A shoulder can be seen, along with a sniper. The sniper is carefully positioned in the person’s shoulder and then they look into the scope. The camera is now in the scope’s perspective, and we see Tam and Jeff jogging not a long way away. The sniper fires. Camera switches to about 5 feet away from their left side, and Tammy gets shot instantly in the chest. One look to the side, and Jeff runs for cover. Meanwhile sand is being blown into the air as the sniper tries to get him. He fails. Camera cuts to facing Jeff’s front. He hiding behind a rock. The building can be seen above the rock, in the BG. Jeff is breathing heavily. He turns his head, camera cuts to Tammy lying, twitching. Camera cuts back to him.

Seems interesting. It's a good concept for a movie. I was interested right up until the heavy dialogue started. It didn't feel genuine at all. You definitely need to work on that.

My thoughts exactly, Vaulter. But if it was changed from "based on the Fallout games" to "takes place in a post-apocalyptic world similar to that in the Fallout games", it would be a different matter.
Edit: *sigh* I was going to write in my book, but I had two typos in that last sentence alone and one in this one... maybe I'll go read a book instead.

"takes place in a post-apocalyptic world similar to that in the Fallout games"
That sounds a lot better. I am not aiming at fan fiction at all, mostly because I don't really know too much about the Fallout history. I do like the rich world though, full of themes and depth... That's why I want to do a script that "takes place in a post-apocalyptic world similar to that in the Fallout games"...
