No one can take your place.

But then who is she? So shaggy and beautiful. Her golden fur cascading down youthful thighs and muzzle. Just a pup.

You told me you loved me, that I was part of the family. But who is she? You bought her at the mall, even though you know they come from puppy mills. You bought her and laughed when she licked your nose. I used to lick your nose too.

But you remember nothing. I am pushing up daisies while you frolic with your newly acquired symbol of youth. Forget death. Forget my death. But no more shall I be forgotten.

The dirt smells old and crumbles easily beneath my decaying paws. The cardboard box you put me in did little to shield me from the ravages of soil and its crypt keepers. The bugs that burrowed into my flesh now flee. They are only interested in the rotting particles of the dead, not flesh and bone of the reanimated.

There's my little dog house. Remember when you made it for me. I tried to help but the hammer was too heavy, so I wagged my tail and cuddled with you. I loved that little house. I can smell her now, sleeping so soundly in my home. She doesn't belong there. I belong there. You made it for me.

She stirs now hearing the sound of my paws dragging upon the wet grass. It is hard to move them, my back legs can barely hold my weight. But they will hold me for long enough.

Pretty pretty Retreiever. Her nose is quivering. She is afraid. My smell is strange and unnatural. She begins to bark. She is calling you, calling for you to help her, to save her. I limp to the house, blocking her within it. She cannot escape. My teeth are still whole and I snap at her throat. She is clumsy with youth, she doesn't know how to fight, how to survive. The blood drips down my rotting jowels. It tastes good. Satisfaction.

And then I hear you scream. I drop her and turn to you. How I've missed you so. I know you didn't mean it, I know you didn't love her as much as me, I forgive you. I try to wag my tail but the bones crack with the sway. Your eyes are wide and you're screaming. Please don't scream. I love you. I love you. Please don't leave.

Let me lick your nose once more.
