Question I hope this is the right place for a ?

Hi, I am new here and I did look in the questions area of the WF for an answer to my question. I have pondered for three days now what RPG was and I finally figured it out. I would LOVE to get involved in this! My question is this....since I know nothing about this format, where is a good place for me to start? Are there RPG's for novices? I would love any kind of advice or suggestion.

    Thanks!

You should get a pretty good idea of the format simply by reading through the threads (note that many of them have separete thread for planning and actual playing). Most RPGs here lack the exstensive rules of other RPGs and are pretty much like improvised theater or something.

I hope you gained at least something from this post and you're very welcome to check out the RPG advertised in my signature.

Have you read through Foxee's Island Breezes thread? Deadline is tomorrow for PMed letters. It's just starting up, and I know Foxee to be merciful with newcomers to roleplaying.

    Thank you both!

Both of your responses were very helpful to me and I really appreciate you taking the time to help out a newbie! I know we can be a pain in the you know what sometimes.

That's right, that was exactly what I was doing. Helping a newbie out. Not trying to lure more people into my own RPG or anything...

    LOL Faustling,

I don't think I would have anything to contribute to your RPG, I know nothing of politics! But I will definately keep my eye open and will be ready to jump in when I think there is something I might know a little about!

Well, we are open for non-political characters as well...

(Now I'll just stop before it becomes embarrassing)

RPGs can be confusing for newcomers, but most of us are merciful towards newbies and it's fairy easy to pick up once you're used it how to works. My advice would be rather than joining one that's already started, try one that's just beginning to cut down on how much catching up you have to do.

Check out the Treasure Hunt RPG thread, as participants haven't been finally decided on yet so there's still time to apply. If you get selected Foxee's feedback system should help you to pick it all up fairly quickly. If you need any help at all with RPGs I'm just a PM away

There was a dedicated site where they did a kind of training, setting you a scene to describe, offering pointers as needed, but as those RPs were fairly strictly moderated it mightn'y apply here.

I'd love to do the training idea if we could figure out how it would work here, Slayer. The feedback points idea is about as close as I've gotten so far.

It was a messy enough thing to keep track of in a forum, as each trainee was given their own thread which was summarily deleted upon completion, might be better off doing it via PM.
