    Saloon Profile and Affairs Thread

First things first: Our little old town is called 'Cottonwood Springs'

Here's your profile template for the Western RPG- which forthwith shall be known as 'Saloon'. If you wanna check the plot out go and check out my 'The Western Has Arrived' thread elsewhere on the board.

    Name:
    Gender:
    Age:
    Occupation:
    Weapon:
    Appearance:
    Background:
Loved ones to be either killed or kidnapped:

Okey doke folks: Stick your profiles up, here's a few things to bear in mind.

    1) A gun is quite essential. We need a large number of good shots to go on this journey, but I'm going to allow a couple of characters who are not so strong to come along (keeps up dramatic tension). Your characters do not need to be competent in all forms of guns and firing either, let them have weaknesses. But not so mweak. If you are going to be a character not good with guns, there needs to be a reason why you would be invaluable on this trip. A doctor, for example. The choices are endless.

    2) In your background it would be advisable to stick in a little about your connection to the town and why you feel so connected to it

    3) The loved ones you stick in the final section, will be decided upon by either myself or Foxee as to whether we kill them or kidnap them (or if we're feeling nice, we'll leave them alone). It is crucial you stick something in this section anyway, as it gives an extra incentive to fight for in the RPG. Basically all we need is a few names of people close to you and how they are related.

    4) I would advise being a little specific about your gun. Check the net to find a piece relative to the time (i.e. no modern brands)

AND NOW- FOR OUR RPG RULES!!! (Pay close attention, there are a couple of new ones. I'll repeat this at the beginning of the RPG anyway)

    1) No-Godding (I'm sure we all know what this means by now- no making yourself super-strong and almighty)

    2) No auto-killing/hitting: No doing either of these things to another persons character without their permission to do so.

    3) No moving: No pushing along the story unless you are an RPG Mover (Myself and Foxee as of now)

    4) No bringing a group attack without RPG mover's permission

    5) No short posts!!! Yes, I really am clamping down on this. I am advising a word count of 100 words minimum
per post. This is not as long as it seems, but neither is it a
matter of 2 or 3 sentences. Remember, the RPG aint going nowhere, so take your time over your posts and post something enjoyable for other RPG'ers to read.

    6) Remember, this is 1897 and it's the American Old West! If in doubt about the historical accuracy of something, check on the net or ask Foxee or myself. I am not going to be amazingly strict about accuracy because I'm not completely up to speed on it myself. Which brings me to...

    7) While trying to be logical, it is also extremely important to HAVE FUN! Be creative, make each post something everyone enjoys reading.

8 )Any comments- YEP! You know what to do with any comments, queries, questions, or complaints that you have. STICK THEM IN THE WESTERN RPG AFFAIRS THREAD! No spamming up the actual RPG thank you very much.

    9) Grammar- a niggly thing but try to keep it legible.

    10) This is the real world people- as much as this may pain some of you- NO FANTASY!

    11) A TIMELINE: Keep one! No jumping forward in time
    without RPG movers say so.

    12) NPC's that are major such as the Sheriff, Eli Wallach, the Mayor etc. will be controlled by myself and Foxee.

    13) And finally... give someone else the chance to reply before you post again. A guideline would be 3 posts per character per conversation (then allot others to post- then you may post again, even in the same conversation if you so wish)

And that's pretty much it. Once again, any questions fire them at me in a PM. I'll leave this around for a while before setting up the actual RPG. Until then.... Good luck, be creative, follow the rules, and have a BLOODY GOOD TIME!

(p.s. Hands off the Deputy Sheriff- He's my character! I'll be posting my profile soon)

(p.p.s. Once the RPG begins, all is well. Nothing is amiss. We are in the town living our routine lives. The RPG shall begin the day before the attack on our town takes place. Thus, we have about 12 hours of daylight before the attack and before the RPG officially kicks off!)

AS A FINAL NOTE, CHECK OUT THIS WEBSITE. IT IS EXCELLENT FOR GETTING AN ACCURATE GUN. PERHAPS WE CAN ALL POST LINKS TO THE GUNS WE CHOOSE FOR OUR CHARACTERS IN OUR PROFILES.

Yes, although the RPG isn't up and running yet I thought I'd better stick this up now so questions can be asked here as opposed to the profile page (although I'm sure you awkward ones will post there anyway, lol).

So.... nothing to report at the moment, if you haven't stuck your profile up yet..... then why not?! Get yourself over to the 'Saloon Profile Thread' and put up your description.

Queries, comments, questions and complaints relating to the RPG in here please! No spamming the actual RPG.

Name: Little Ned Buchett (Boo-chet: phonetically)

    Gender: Male

    Age: 29

Occupation: Deputy Sheriff of 'Cottonwood Springs'

Weapon: The 1892 early version of the Winchester double barelled rifle. The lever on it allows the gun to fire multiple rounds without having to reload:
    http://www.emf-company.com/images3/1...tion-rifle.jpg

Also has an 1873 Peacemaker pistol. Black butt, with silver finish and gunmetal. It is a classic six-shooter, firing 9mm rounds. Pulling the hammer back halfway cocks it, all the way shoots it. Real rapid reloader and firer:
    http://replicagunsswords.com/weapons...cat=208&page=1

Appearance: As part of the local law enforement is rarely seen out of uniform, which consists of black trousers, blue buttoned shirt, black boots, spurs, gun belt, badge, and a black stetson with white tassle. As for the man himself, he stands at six foot, fairly slim as opposed to muscular, but holds himself with authority. He has close cut short black hair, and a small black moustache. His features are quite sharp, and he is often taken as a fool by the locals (think Dewey from the Scream trilogy). On his right hand he wears his wedding ring, despite his wifes death many years earlier.

Background: Having grown-up in Cottonwood Springs, the town is all Ned knows. He was born into a loving marriage, and had one brother, William. He helped tend to his mother and fathers ranch on the outskirts of the town into his teenage years. He was schooled to a reasonable degree at the local schoolhouse, along with many other companions he now shares the town with. At the age of 18 his father, who was good friends with the Sheriff decided that he would talk to the Sheriff about a possible job in law enforcement. After a few pleasant conversations over dinner the deal was made. Ned would work with the Sheriff's department and if he worked hard enough, he might just one day make sheriff. For years Ned studied by the side of Sheriff Sam Reilly, studying text books a few days a week, listening to the bravado stories of the Sheriff the rest of the time. At the age of 22, Ned had the happiest and also most distressing year of his life. First of all, he married his childhood sweetheart, Elaine, and nine months later she gave birth to their beautiful daughter Christine. But with every blessing a curse seems to soon follow. Due to complications, Elaine died giving birth. Ned was heartbroken, but promised her as she lay dying he would look after Christine until his dying day. Just when his heart felt like it could take no more pain or love- his father was murdered. Two gunslingers from out of town got into a feud with him at the local saloon over a game of cards. As he left for the night they stabbed him, left him for dead, and stole all he had on him- which was not much. Ned decided to move back in with his mother during this distressing time. All the while, he remained by Sam Reilly's side. Though all the while he studied law, he began to tire of the Sheriff's bravado stories and looked to further his own interests. He tried to find out exactly who had killed his father. 3 years later at the age of 25, Ned made Deputy after his predecessor left town. At the Sheriff's side they upheld order in the town for the next four years, keeping it safer than ever before. Despite him being the butt of many townspeople's jokes due to what they saw as his unsuitability for the job. Working alongside the Sheriff, he began to realise upholding the law was not as fulfilling as he had first imagined. For such a small town crime was not on the rise, and often he would be called to settle minor disputes, or iron out creases in policy and the like. Now, at the age of 29, still living with his mother and seven year-old daughter, he plans to soon leave the town. Once his daughter is into her teenage years he wants to move out into the more settled lands of America, where perhaps he can be better utilised and provide somewhat of a more prosperous and happy life for his family.

Loved Ones To Be Either Killed or Kidnapped: A mother, Jessice, of 62 years, and a daughter, Christine, of 7 years.

What part of Texas will this be played out? If it's ranching I would suggest central Texas as the other regions developed in other ways...the eastern part was timber and oil...yes in the late 1800's (Spindletop oil field http://sln.fi.edu/fellows/fellow2/jan99/spindletop.html ). Far west Texas was the most inhospitable and supported only limited ranching....it took over 10,000 acres per head to support only a few cattle, goats, etc. North Texas (where the real Cottonwood Spring exists) was farming, great wheat fields that stretched through all the states to Canada. South Texas was a hot arid area that few sought out. Captain King http://www.king-ranch.com/legacy_overview.html did and founded the King Ranch...the size of many states. So, if ranching is the goal, with side bars on minerals and railroads I would suggest Central Texas...the "Texas Hill Country" which extends from south of San Antornio (Alamo fame) to north of Austin and westward to the Edwards Plateau.

Oh, I'm so sorry. Are witty replies another of those things you're "clamping down on"? Should it get stern command voice with bold letters?

You being funny Lin? Take it easy fella.

And yeah, we'll make it central Texas. I am highly highly unlikely to get the geograpy one hundred percent Seawings so perhaps you could assist me from time to time. But yeah our small town has ranching business but is on the borders of some real hostile wilderness.

And Slayer, that Sheriff gun is sweet as a nut! Snap it up before someone else does.

    Name: Wenz J. Clancy

    Gender: Male

    Age: 20

    Occupation: Stable hand, ranch worker.

Weapon: Schofield Cavalry Model Revolver Model 3. Nickel finish, 7" barrel, six-shooter.
Major George W. Schofield requested Smith & Wesson some modifications on the "Model No.3" revolvers, the break-top action allowed easier access to the cylinder and quicker reloading, sometimes as quick as 26 seconds without looking, making it a major advantage while mounted.(http://replicagunsswords.com/weapons...cat=106&page=1)

Appearance: Dark brown hair, green eyes. Tall with a lean built. As for his clothes, dark brown trousers, brown chaps, black colarless shirt, red bandana around his neck, dark brown cowboy hat.

Background: Wenz' family arrived when he was just a toodler, his father bought a piece of land and used to raised cattle and horses. Wenz' mother, Mary-Ann, later gave birth to his sister, Julia, when he was 5 years old.
Wenz helps his father with the cattle (now more than 300 heads) and the horses, his favorite one being a white buck called 'Lucky Star'. Occasionally he plays music at the saloon, were his girlfriend also works.
Having to work in a ranch, Wenz is good with the lasso. He prefers his own revolver over a rifle because it allows him to shoot one-handedly, so he's pretty much useless with a rifle for lack of practice.

Loved ones to be either killed or kidnapped: Father, Mother, sister and girlfriend.

I'm okay if someone wants to play my father(or mother or sister or girlfriend), it might give the RPG and interesting twist, if so I have no qualms about changing the last name.

    Name: Morgan ‘Prettyboy’ Gaines

Gender: Female passing as Male.* Please read note.

    Age: 23 as a woman…appears to be about 17 as a male.

Occupation: 'Freelance' guard for mail and other coaches also horse handler.

Weapon: Dead accurate shot with her Model 1892 Winchester.38-40 rifle.
She also carries a Schofield .45 New Model 3 revolver -standard blued finish and barrel cut to 5" though she is a lousy pistol shot.

Appearance: 5’6” (5’7 ½” in her boots), blonde curly hair cropped short, turquoise eyes, pale skin of sort that flushes easily. Wears work trousers, loose-fitting Lindsey-woolsey shirt and suspenders, boots, dark brown slouch hat usually tilted low to obscure her face, trench coat when needed. Beneath the shirt she keeps her breasts bound.

Background: Born Lindsay Anne Morgan Hawthorne, Morgan was raised and educated in Philadelphia. She wanted adventure but went along with her exasperated mother’s wishes that she live the life of a sensible lady. That is until those wishes included becoming affianced to Edward Gorman, shipping magnate’s son. Though she didn’t dislike Edward, she didn’t love him either. She ran away.

She headed west, passing as a boy with better results than she could have hoped. Once or twice in her journeys she was found out but so far everyone has kept her secret. Only two people in her current town know - the pastor and his wife.

Adventure is Morgan’s main motivation. (if they had bungee jumping in the Old West she probably would have been first in line) Fear of being sent back home to Philadelphia, potential awkwardness with people who know her currently as a male, and disinclination to be relegated to a life of embroidery all keep her from revealing herself as a woman.

Morgan is an average poker player (you win some, you lose some), playing fairly often against one of her few friends in Cottonwood Springs, 'Ace' Wills (who normally wins).

Loved ones to be either killed or kidnapped: Reverend T.L. Booney and his wife Clara. They know Morgan’s secret and are like family to her.

*NOTE: This is partially an exercise for me in thinking about how a woman would observe and apply gender cues to try to pass as a male. Morgan will, during the course of the story, be found to be a woman or else reveal herself to be a woman. Please don’t have your character ‘discover’ her unless the gender cues I give are wrong or there is some overt reason for her to be found out…let the story unfold naturally. I’d appreciate a PM before someone discovers/reveals her gender, please.

Also, Seawings has a good point...there is such varied topography in Texas (and throughout the west) that we at least need to decide what sort of surroundings we are in. He has some excellent info up.
