This is fun. I did it in the Archmage Reincarnation forum way back when the game first started. It was a huge success and a blast. You will need to create a short profile. You will be fighting.
here is the deal:
Everyone creates a character with some sort of power(s). It can be fantasy, super hero, modern, medieval, mythical, futuristic. Be creative. No God Mods! A short bio, weapon/power list, profile will be created on a separate thread.
these characters will fight each other in a tournament. after each round the winners will be rewarded. you will be able to choose from a list of items.
Aside from fighters, we will need judges. The judges determine the winner scoring them based upon a set of criteria. Not only does your character have to be cool and a good fighter, but you need writing prowess too. A good jockey can't win on a bad horse, and vice versa.
the fighting:
Will take place one battle at a time. First move gets chosen at random. The fighter attacks, the opponent defends and counters. Defend counter, defend counter. This goes on for a set number of rounds (not sure how many yet). Whomever didn't get first move gets the last move. You will write a short description/narrative about your attack. You can control your opponent to a certain extent. You can have your attack affect your opponent and write about it, you cannot determine how your opponent will react to your attack. If you have something you want to do, PM that person and let them know what you intend.
keep it short. i'd say no more than two paragraphs. three if they are short ones. i will put a line limit as a guideline.
victory:
there are a couple ways this can happen, so i'm open to discussing it. After the judges determine the winner, said winner can write the victory post (no death unless the opponent agrees to die). OR one of the judges, or another specified person, can write the victory post.
tournament:
you lose, you're out. you win, you move on. until we have one character standing. prizes will get better as you progress. in the first round, first move gets drawn at random. in the subsequent rounds, first move is determined by the fighter with the higher score from the previous round.
judging:
three judges will score on a scale of 1-5 on these criteria:
originality/creativity
realism
writing
style
overall
score range of 5-25. the scores get added over the course of the rounds and the person with the highest score wins. in the event of a tie, we will have a tie breaker round.
Example:
Meet fighter A and fighter X. Fighter A is a powerful mage, Fighter X is a minotaur with magical weapons. Fighter A wins the first move. Each number is a round (this is a summarized version. the real battle will have much more description).
1) A attacks with a firestorm spell
2) X defends with his magical shield but still gets hurt. he counters with a powerful attack from his icy battle ax
3) A tries to dodge but gets swiped. she casts a shield spell around her and begins chanting for a powerful earthquake
4) X shoulder tackles A to try and break the chant
5) A loses her concentration and the spell. she breaks out her staff and casts a powerful binding spell on X while at the same time shooting fire
6) X get bound for a few seconds but manages to get his shield up. He breaks the bind with some effort after getting burned and launches a final desparate attack...
see how the fighter at the beginning of each line is in control of the post. its subtle. you determine your own fate. No God Mods! Be realistic. Take some damage. Just because you write yourself seconds away from death does not mean you lose the battle. Remember, you are being judged!
leave each post open for the next fighter.
