    Darkness Reigns

    Disclaimer:
WARNING - Violence, profanity, and adult situations within.

[It is June of 2013. Over a year ago Korea fired a weapon of mass destruction and set off a worldwide chain reaction. Though well over half of the planet has been completely demolished, one small city still stands. There used to be a population of 80,000 people in Centralia. Now it's living occupancy has dwindled down to the hundreds, the others having fled, died when the bombs dropped, or taken their own lives in site of their pending doom. Radiation levels are high, but basic needs must still be met and the bunkers only had so much in stock...]

All posts should be in third person for easier reading and continuity.
    Darkness Reigns
    Rules of Engagement
    1. Keep it all need-to-know. Every gang should co-ordinate with their members on what their gang is about, what their missions is, and any other secrets they might have.

    2. Keep it Personal. Every character should be an individual. Every character should have his/her secrets and idiosyncrasies. Instead of broadcasting these on a bio, keep it to yourself and reveal it through the story. (Those who wish to be gang leaders should PM me their bios and let me know which section of the city they see themselves in)

    3. Got a major land mine type secret? All I ask is that if it affects more than your character you PM me and we’ll work it out with all involved.

    4. Talk to each other. If you and a buddy want to work something neat in the story with your characters then by all means, use PM’s to keep it a secret and blast us all away with it.

    5. There’s going to be a lot of Disclaimers. I don’t mind, if your character is the swearing or violent or romantic type I wouldn’t think of asking you to “tone it down”. Obviously basic forum rules apply but otherwise I’ll be putting up a massive disclaimer to cover us.

    6. Late to the game? Not a problem. Feel free to mosey on in as a character traveling from another place.

    7. Most other RPG rules still apply. No playing superman or God, no random killing off of other player (except for NPC’s of course), and please keep it going. If you are going to be gone for longer than a few days let me know and if you can’t play anymore we can arrange for a reason as to why so-and-so randomly disappears. Note: If you go longer than a week without posting I will arrange for your character to die a violent and gruesome death.

    8. If you die, it’s alright. You can always add a new character to the game.

    Bellona

The nights were getting colder again, Summer had never been so cold.
'Great just what we needed. Food is low as usual.' Bellona thought. But she thanked god they didn't need to worry about radiation poisoning in the prison walls. They seemed to be so thick that nothing seemed to penetrate them and of course the lack of windows helped too. She missed having natural light streaming through big windows. Not that windows would help see the natural light now.

The Leader Sayble had sent a messenger to let Bell know to meet her in her 'Office'. Looks like she would be needed for some more strategic planning...

Sayble Nox leaned forward in her chair and sighed, rubbing her temples as she looked over the latest reports. She’d sent some scouts out to other parts of the city. The news wasn’t good. There were people, other groups, but those that were encountered did not seem to be friendly. Apparently gangs had formed during the past year and territory disputes were flaring up as a result. Part of her had hoped they could connect with some of them and form a trade, but as it was it might be too dangerous.

The strange weather wasn’t good for their make-shift garden. They’d all been trying their best to keep the plants alive; God knows they needed an established food supply before the dry stuff ran out. So many mouths to feed... Worse yet medical supplies were nearly nonexistent. Many of her people suffered from radiation sickness, half a dozen had passed away since they’d taken over the old prison. She knew there was a hospital downtown and another near the suburbs. The problem was getting supplies from them safely.

Propping her boot up on the warden’s desk she leaned back and closed her eyes. She should go herself. When Belladonna showed up she’d give her the news and set her up to cover while Nox was away.

The City Hall was nothing more than a shadow of its glorious past. The once pristine white, paved walls were now filled with dust, soot and cracks. It's more gray than white now, and the bomb explosions certainly helped scatter the dirt around, if not demolished the walls entirely. Still, the building remained stubborn. Three-fourths of its structure still stood.

Electricity was hard to come by nowadays, but being a member of the ruling political party in the city always helped with that small nit. Three industrial-standard generators ran the power in the building, with the running done by rotation. While the two powered the structure up, the remaining is charged.

With many of the opposing political parties either dead or dying, the majority Socialist party sought to claim its throne in Centralia. Its delegates decided that its secretary, not president, be named mayor. The president couldn't care less. After all, he was already dead. And if he were alive, the reaction would've been the same - the party's secretary was his son.

And so, despite the post-apocalyptic set-up, politics still played a pivotal role in this society, and Konrad didn't mind it at all. Heck, he was now leading a city because of it. It's a nearly-decimated city, but its still a city.

Konrad was in his office enjoying the cool air afforded by his room's air-conditioning system. The first order of the day was to search for survivors in the nearby sectors of the city. He looked at some reports. It seemed there are survivors, a lot of them. Rebuilding the city didn't sound as futile as he thought. He punched a few buttons in his intercom and a beep soon sounded from it. "Send in Ravychenko," uttered Konrad towards the intercom's receiver.

"A few moments, sir," came the reply.

A couple of minutes later, Konrad's right-hand man, Tomasz Ravychenko, entered the room. Considering the circumstances, he was dressed in the most professional sense. He wore a gray coat and same-colored pair of slacks. Underneath the coat was a white collar shirt and tie. They were ironed, but a few stains were visible. The clothing as a whole looked a bit dusty, too.

"You sent for me, Mayor Kunze?" Ravychenko inquired nonchalantly.

"Yes, I did. I want you to lead a convoy to check for survivors in the nearby sectors. Reports say our scouts found a handful of them. I want you to bring them to the city center and tell them that this city hasn't succumbed to the apocalypse just yet."

"Any sector you want me to visit first?"

Konrad rubbed his chin for a moment, as if in deep thought, then said, "Check out the prisons first. Its walls are thick and sturdy. It would've survived the blast. And if it did, so did its inhabitants."

Ravychenko nodded and exited the room without another word.

    Bell

Bell brushed her stragley blonde hair from her face. A sigh of relief swept over her as she realised how glad she was that she had natural blonde hair. Dying hair wasn't at the top of her priority list right now, however much she used to prize her looks. Another point in her favour was her structured cheek bones which afforded her the luxury of looking attractive with little or no make up.

She took the dark stairs of the prison two at a time, the only light emitted by oil lamps set in cold metal brackets on the wall. There were rumours that some places still had electricity but the only blessing they had here was warm water.

Even that was something they were lucky to have these days.

Bell knocked on the wooden make shift door as she entered Sayble's office. It looked like it used to be a room for a prison guard; more luxurious than a cell but still the cold walls that echoed throughtout the Prison, with a small en-suite attached. Bell knew it well as she had a simillar room herself.

Bell looked at her tired leader after weeks of discussing the whereabouts of medical supplies, not to mention food, and the stratagies they'd have to use to get them. Bell already knew what Sable was going to say. There was no way she was going to let her go by herself. As soon as Bell walked in she didn't even give Sayble a chance to talk. She maybe leader but she was a friend too.

"So I was thinking, there's no point in you going by yourself, you know it's dangerous out there, we both know the gang wars are getting worse, so i'm going with you" she knew that look Sayble gave her. Justify it. "You know my skill set, you know i'm perfect for scouting and let's face it, two pairs of eyes are always better than one. The group can look after themselves, they survived the apocolypse the same we did." Bell stood defiant, arms crossed, stance wide ready to fight her corner.

Nox sighed, rising slowly from her chair.

"Bell we've had this conversation." She went around the desk and laid a hand on Belladonna's shoulder. "It's not that I doubt your abilities, in fact it's because you are so talented that I need you to stay here. If something were ever to happen to me you would be the only one who could take my place." She frowned and backed up, hoisting herslef up to sit on the edge of the desk. A curly lock of hair fell in front of her eyes, she pushed it back.

"Besides, there's something else I need to take care of while I'm out. Something I need to do alone."

Bell bit her bottom lip, a sign she was thinking hard. A debate flashed through her head as quickly as it had taken for Sayble to hoist herself up on the desk.

"Fine" Bell wasn't stupid, Nox wouldn't be doing this by her own for no reason and usually Nox would agree with the input Bell had. It looks like for now she'd be staying behind to look after the less able...

"It's not like you to have somethinig you're not telling me about, but I won't push it for now. When you get back it's another story". Grinning, a glint of mischeif in her eye Bell stalked out of the room leaving Nox to her thoughts.

At least she doesn't know yet. My night trips don't seem to have been noticed.

Bell knew she had a little time until Nox had gathered everything to go, she took this respite as a chance to get out and see her little friend. After all she was pretty sure he wouldn't be allowed in the walls with the rest of them.

Nox hopped of the desk and headed into her private quarters. She donned a black skull cap and a sturdy pair of boots. For a moment she paused and starred into the wall, getting lost in her thoughts. There were many things on her mind. One of which was that she hadn't slept or eaten in days. Relating to that was her increased stress levels over lack of food and medical supplies, and her fear that someone she had long thought dead, may very well still be alive. It was really only a suspicion, there was very little evidence to back it up. However, if he was.... She didn't want to think about what could happen. that was why she needed to go alone. No one else could know about what happened in the bunker a year ago.

Strapping a hunting knife to her belt and holstering a gun on her thigh, she shrugged on a long, thin jacket and exited her rooms. She strode down the long hallways and left out the back. It was probably better that no one else knew she was leaving.

Thomas saw Belladonna in the hallway and ran up to her.

Damn, no time to go and see the little one.

"What is going on!? Nox is out, i'm in charge for now, just take a breather and explain to me slowly whats going on!" Bell tugged nervously at her thin sweater avoiding the urge to pull up the hood and go somewhere quiet where no one would bother her.

"There's some guy just wandering around outside the prison. He hasn't spoken a single word and I've got people watching him, but I'm not sure what we should do." Thomas said hurriedly. "You're in charge when Nox's gone right?"

    Tomasz Ravychenko

The arid wasteland that was now the prisons was no beautiful sight. It was still one of the most ominous places in Centralia. Its high, metal, gray walls scale almost fifty feet, preventing any prisoner to even just think about breaking free. But for Ravychenko, he wasn't looking to escape, he was looking to break in. Together with a small platoon of soldiers from the city armed with automatic rifles and laser-guided side pistols, they looked more like a search-and-destroy unit than a reconnaissance and rescue force. Still, its better safe than sorry.

Ravychenko, himself armed with his trusty 12-gauge shotgun, walked with a couple of soldiers towards the main gate. Seeing nobody around, and with the gate unlocked, they opened it and let themselves in. Ravychenko looked to one of his soldiers and nodded. The soldier already knew what to do. The group split into three, one heading east, the other heading west and Ravychenko's group heading straight inside the prison building. After a half-kilometer walk, Ravychenko signaled something to a soldier in his right, who obliged without a word. The soldier took out a loudspeaker and gave it to his boss.

Ravychenko cleared his throat, and in the nicest voice he could muster, said to the speaker, "Are there any people here?"

    Bell

Bell rubbed her eyes in frustration and knew this couldn't be anything but bad.

"Get everyone to the lock down room, I’ll deal with this myself" She walked away as the thought process started whirring in her mind. Nox said there were survivors, I didn't expect them to come knocking on our door... She stopped off at her room only to pick up a trusty knife and slide it into the holder on her thigh.

The prison did have a huge arms department but thus far any attempts that had made on the door had not yielded a decent result. The one gun she did have, a small glock, had been lost on one of her nightly outings a couple of days ago. She still hadn't told Nox yet...

Quickly she climbed a flight of stairs and slowly edged her way to a small look-out window. From there she looked down to the front yard of the prison. She clocked the parties immediately. There was no camouflage against the sea of grey that was the Prison.

One group headed in through the main gate, one group headed east, one group headed west. All armed. She knew she would have no problem with the two splitting off in opposite directions, they would end up going all the way round the prison for a fair old walk then end right back at the beginning again. It was the group in front that worried her.

She withdrew from the window and sprinted lightly down the stairs. As she approached the ground level she edged around the double doors into what could be referred to as the reception area. In front of her was a huge sheet of Perspex bullet proof material. It had one door that could only be opened by swipe card. In front of the see-through sheet were roughly five stone steps leading to where the group of men stood.

Slowly she walked out into the middle of the room feeling secure behind the bullet proof canvas and stood stance wide and confident, arms crossed so as not to give anything away. Bell found herself wishing that Nox was here. She was the only back-up she could truly rely on and Bell couldn't stand having any kind of attention on her, positive or not.

"Evening all, what can I do for you this pleasant day?" She didn't even try to hide the venom seeping out into her words.

    Luther Rahn
Thomas had come and let Luther know that people were here, strange people. He grabbed his machine pistol, a converted Tech-9 he picked up off some drug dealer he wasted a while back, and headed out to provide back up. 'Excitement abounds' He wanted to shoot someone so bad, he'd been waiting for an opportunity like this. Throwing on a battered jacket and a backwards baseball cap he rushed out the door, barely remembering to zip up his blue jeans before leaving. He raced down the hall to the only entrance, coming up behind Bell.

"What have we here?" He said as he lit up a smoke. "Company?"

Piper put her backpack over her shoulder then grabbed her bow from the floor. She was running low on food. The house she inhabited was in good condition considering what the rest of the area looked like but the surrounding area had very little food. Meaning that she would need to go hunting in the State Park. Before the bombs hit her father taught her how to hunt and skin animals in the wild. At the time these seemed like useless skills. She was glad to know them now. With the quiver of arrows over her other shoulder she headed for the State Park.

    State Park
She entered the park and headed for the tree line looking for a good tree to hunt from. The State Park was the only place she found game now a days. Even there sometimes she would need to wait for days before she caught anything. Not that she minded hunting was surprising relaxing.

When she found a tree that looked safe enough to climb she checked the pack and quiver. After checking her supplies she began to climb.
