Okay, so finally I'm ready to get this rolling. To start with, we'll have some rules:
1 ) GM's word is law. This is first for a reason - if I say it, unless you present an extremely good argument, it stands.
2 ) No God-moding. It ruins it for the other players, and besides, where's the fun in writing an invincible character?
3 ) No controlling other players' characters. In the case of extremely minor things, like physical interactions and such, this may be relaxed slightly, but if you write something about another player's character, it is subject to their approval. If they ask for it to be changed, you will change it.
4 ) SPaG check. It's a writing forum. At the very least, put it through MS Word before posting. I'm not going to crack down on every little typo, but if I'm having to stop several times a sentence to figure out what exactly you're writing, I can gurantee you're character will have unpleasant things happen. Of course, that leads to...
5 ) Characters will die. While I will endeavour to ensure each player retains at least one living character, this is a story that will have casualties. Players who are irritating or inactive will probably go towards the top of the hit list, but I reserve the right to kill any character that the plot demands. This will include my own characters.
6 ) Posts should be of a reasonable length. At least a paragraph or two per post please, unless it is absolutely necessary to have a conversation in the thread in which case a reasonable number of short posts may be accepted, although the defininition of reasonable is up to GM discretion. Ideally, if you need a long conversation between two characters, do it via PM, and then have one person post the results or something like that.
7 ) Characters must first be posted in the Profiles and Affairs Thread, and approved by the GM, before posting in this thread. Before posting your profile, you should be at least somewhat familiar with the worldbuilding info at the beginning of that thread.
8 ) Please keep out of character posts out of this thread as far as possible, and if you must say something OOC, enclose it in double brackets ((like this)). We have the Profiles and Affairs Thread for OOC discussions if required.
9 )In case it hasn't been covered as part of another rule, generally be a courteous player, and try not to annoy anyone else. This is a game, and as such should be fun for everyone.
10) In keeping with rule 1), I reserve the right to add more rules as time goes on...
Moving on to a couple of guidelines for posting. At the beginning of each post (or section of a post, if applicable), start with your character name in bold and/or underline, leave a line break, and then write about their actions. It just makes it easier to follow for everyone else. Please use the default WF font, or some other similarly sized sans serif font - no super huge or super tiny fonts, thanks, and serif fonts are just a pain to read on screen.
As GM, I will post story updates as required. These will typically be posted sometime during the weekend my time (UTC+10 - Australian Eastern Standard), either weekly or fortnightly as required. Please try and post as your character at least once or twice between each update. Updates will always be posted in blue text. In keeping with rule 1) from above, sometimes for story purposes I will need to take control of someone's character temporarily. When posting as someone's character, expect to see green text. In keeping with rules 1) and 5), occasionally I will take control of someone's character for the purpose of killing them in a particular way. If I'm doing this, expect to see red text (fear the red text of dooooooom...). Other times I'll just tell you that it's time for you character to die, and let you write the scene... feel free to use the red colour coding for yourself if you're told to do this.
Finally, I will be maintaining a player roster and short summary of events in the space at the end of this post, once I have a full list of characters and locations. That way, new players will be able to read through a summary when they first join if necessary, and anyone can check who is with their character just by glancing at the roster. (Warning: the space below the dotted line will be edited as part of most updates, so check regularly if you're relying on it for info)
