Hey all,
Most of you don't know me. I'm Kamisama, and I joined these boards with hopes of ameliorating my English, which is my second language. I joined another RPG, but since it's been inactive for a week, I decided to try myself as a 'game master'. What started as a normal RPG soon developed into something quite different...
Therefore, this is an attempt at a different kind of story telling, halfway between a novel and an RPG. Basically, the readers have an influence on the story and characters without actively being part of the story. The way that works is that multiple options (usually between 2 and 5) will be given to the readers after each paragraph. They will then vote for their preferred option and, if need be, explain their choice in an effort to convince other readers that their choice is the best. A maximum of 72 hours will be given for voting / discussing. After 72 hours (or less, depending), the story will continue according to the winning option, whether or not all the readers voted (that will prevent stalls and incredible waiting times).
A minimum of 5 voters is needed to start / continue this project. If less than five people participated after 168 hours (7 days) since the last paragraph written, the story will be closed.
The story type will be typical fantasy / dungeon crawl. You all know what fantasy is; think Lord of the Ring. As for "dungeon crawl", that means the character will basically progress in a restrained environment clearly defined in the form of a maze. A progressive map will be furnished to prevent confusion, progressive meaning that more of the map will be revealed as the characters advance in the "dungeon".
The choices readers will be faced with vary greatly; it can be as simple as choosing directions, or as complicated as choosing battle strategies or what a character says for information gathering.
This story could be considered as never-ending. It will be divided into Chapters, one "dungeon" per chapter. Be warned that those chapters are linked, meaning that the NPCs (Non-Player Characters, in this case the people the main characters meet during their travels) met in Chapter 1 may come back in Chapter 6 and act according to how you treated them previously. The total number of Chapters is unknown and will depend on popularity.
Anyone can join at any time. If you do, please send my a PM (Private Message) telling me you'll be joining. If you want to stop playing, again, send me a PM telling me so. No reason needed, I just need to know how many players there are.
Characters cannot die. But they can get hurt, which will affect the story too, so be careful. If one of the options seems risky or even plainly stupidly dangerous, well it probably is.
That's the basis behind the idea. I have a bunch of ideas on how to develop this concept further, but first I want to know if anyone is interested in giving this a try. Further information (rules, how to, etc) will be given as soon as five people sign up in this thread.
You're also very welcome to ask questions.
Kami
