Kamisama looked at Maddy and Ono talk together. He stood completely still, almost seeming frozen, only his eyes switching from one to the other. As expected, he couldn't understand most of it.
He watched Ono walk toward some trees in the short distance. The words "cut" and "trees" were now clearer, and since it had most probably something to do with their previous conversation, "shelter" finally made its way to his brain's dictionary. Maddy had obviously things of her own to do, her being seemingly the only one around with some medical knowledge after a crash landing. So Kami pasted his best fake smile and then... stood there.
One problem with the Japanese is that they have a big difficulty with initiative. It's been that way since the beginning of their civilization. Unless they have precise tasks to do, they have a hard time figuring out priorities by fear of getting in someone else's way. They are also very self-conscious and can't get over the mistakes they make. "Manual People", they were called, since they didn't do anything unless they had a manual on how to do it.
Given that information, one can easily comprehend that a Japanese man, young of age, outside a bubble for the first time of his life, having done the same tasks day after day for years, surrounded by a bunch of strangers with whom he can't communicate, has simply no idea on what to do after a crash landing on a foreign planet...
